The geared trains are definitely the way to go. Watched another guy's channel where he had same route to the iron mine. He had 10+ cars and completely stopped on the steep grade. Once he started going again it acted like it was like it was on flat ground.

The torque of the Heissler and especially the Climax are insane. I bought the Heisler (It looked better imo) and above 60% reg the code can't handle the Heissler and it gets infinite wheel slip. According to some user on the rro discord the Climax can handle 10% grades.

little tip on making straight track laying a little more efficient: if you have the cross pieces layed out, instead of deleting 2 and immediately replacing with normal rail, just go ahead and delete 2, leave 2, delete the next 2 [...] and then on your way back just fill in the missing track, will save you a bunch of clicks and time

I don’t know why everyone is so worried about perfectly straight track. I’m as OCD as it gets, but real rail is not straight even with todays tech, let alone mid to late 1800’s tech. Proper radius curve is much more crucial in this game than perfectly straight track IMO, but to each his own
@3DPDK
@3DPDK 2 жыл бұрын
@@connorjones6222 Even in the early days, track was laid straight and with calculated curves according to the surveyors layout markers. After some time though, the rails shift as trains use them, so you are correct about real world crooked tracks. On the other hand, this game completely depends on the physics collision detection between the wheels and the rails to make the train follow the tracks, and as good as it is, it can still have problems with crooked tracks. The wheels can clip into the rails and the physics way of dealing with that is to apply a force on the wheels away from the clipping to solve the it. That can cause the unexpected launches to the moon.

I hope when they develop the game more and get to a point where you enter the industrial age with bigger train cars and diesel engines that you get access to a Signal Tower structure. When placing it, any switches within its radius can be automatically switched. By that I mean while you're driving a little mini gui pops up like a map and lets you flip switches remotely. That way you can drive the trains freely without having to get out and manually flip each one.

Even if it's not mobile remote control, having a switching tower would be cool anyway, letting you plan your route better

They could at least make the switches spring properly like they do IRL (when they're not locked down). My BIGGEST gripe with the game is that they don't. I really hope the devs implement this feature, so you don't have to worry about setting a switch TWICE on a loop to avoid a derail and just set and forget (unless you legitimately want to head off another way), because let's face it, all it does it waste time the way switches currently implemented.

Just wait until you upgrade your locomotive. It also took me around 10 hours to build my first loop. Upgrade to the Mogul and had to re-do all three "starting" areas (receiving area, Freight Depot, and Logging Camp) to accommodate the much larger loco+tender combo which isn't so forgiving when it comes to cornering. I'm sitting here 20 hours in-game and still haven't ventured beyond the Logging Camp. Don't worry though, you quickly become acclimated and building starts getting a lot easier the more you do it. For me, the hardest part is creating a turning radius big enough on one shot where I loop back in for a return line.

Thankful today for a new video! Tip:- The Mogul pulling 2 hoppers and 12 lumber/beam to the iron mine is a great in/out balance and it’s fast and (on my track that is max 3% except a little bit midway that’s 5%) an easy 20% (then 40% for the short bit) throttle run. 5 or so minutes up and down (each way). Takes longer to unload and load.

I've been using the tender engines for my routes, the D&R has more than enough power to pull 20 loaded cars up to the mine on the same track route you have, and it's much faster. They also fixed the brakes on it, so it's a top tear engine now. Geared locos are still beasts, but I much prefer the look of a tender engine.

A really interesting challenge for you and anyone else becoming addicted to this game who intend to run a separate line to the smelter. The logic of it is to have a line that runs directly to the smelter from the logging camp without jamming up the lumber yard. Look carefully on the map and you'll see a gorge, running west to east in the top left corner of the map. There is a pass leading from the area between the lumber yard and the logging camp into that gorge at it's west end. By following the hills to the north of the logging camp you can make it up to the pass with a 2.5% grade the entire way. From the pass down to the smelter a 3.50% grade will require going around a bit to the east of the smelter after you clear the gorge, to get down to the smelter's level. Since this is a one way haul you are pulling empties back up the gorge so you could get away with a steeper grade maybe 4 to 6% on the smelter side making it somewhat shorter. It's really satisfying to watch the train run along the side of the gorge walls. At the lumber camp, come down off the hills to the north-west and loop around to come into the cord wood platform from behind. Make a connection to the lumber yard line just so you can bring engine and cars from the freight yard. With a firewood depot and water tower at the lumber yard the train on this line never has to return to the freight yard.

Super helpful information, foundation will link to tracks and will be perfectly centered. Creating foundations for a shunt yard like this is super easy, start with a reference foundation so you can get the right height then you can stretch a single long foundation between the two parallel switches and boom instant straight and centered foundation. I've been using this trick to make all of my foundations perfect, I will lay a rough foundation for a curve for instance, then place all the tracks with the alt key then go back and make perfect foundation that matches the curve exactly. edit: he mentioned linking brings up the foundation to the track level, using constant grade foundation does not do this
@TJPlaysNow
@TJPlaysNow 2 жыл бұрын
It goes to where you click on the link, their is a section that you can actually click through in the track link area however in this section you can change the height of the foundation to any level the lowest you can go is the bottom of the sleepers and would be used to place more tracks off of it although you should burry the sleepers in the foundation a little for better immersion as this is how they did it in real life.

So when I did my shunt yard, it looked like one train car can fit on two cross tracks. That makes it easy to figure out how many cars you can fit in the lane. Another option for more efficient replacement of the lane is to just drag the track across the whole lane, two sections at a time, then come back and delete the cross pieces by aiming at the part that's sticking out. You don't need to delete the track first (unless they fixed that in a patch I missed).

I free handed my shunt yard at the other end, which means my lines aren't perfectly parallel. Your perfectionism is making me redo stuff lol. My shunt yard is also on the bare ground, which doesn't look as good.

If you have the shunt lanes exit and enter from the same direction, (so the hole yard is crabbing over to the left or right.) Then all the lanes would be the same length. And if ya want to populate the server, put 1 or 2 bypass lanes that give enough space for the shunting train to maneuver in & out of the shunt lanes. Then the shunting yard can be worked and be completely isolated from the mainlines... Good job, keep up the good work! 😉☺️

When I do straight tracks I have a faster way to do it (even for long sections) I start with a cross, so the track is straight. I make a straight section of track from that, in alt mode, on the ground (make sure it is level) connect a switch, and then delete the piece of track between the switch and the cross. You now can start groundwork, connect it to the front of the switch, connect it to the end and press alt. This groundwork will be perfectly aligned with the track you now can build in alt-mode too The reason I use a switch for the groundwork is the lever sticks out so you can easily delete it after

there should really be fixed curved pieces (you know, like in a toy train set), and fixed (semi-fixed, different lengths) straight pieces, too... like, nothing against the "freeform" thing, but having modular "lego" pieces as an alternative option would be nice (you already have the switch and crossroad fixed pieces, why not straight and curved ones, eh?)... Or like piece editor, where you set the curve angle and length, and you could save the piece in your "piece library" and then use it anytime you want... also: world/global grid (for pieces to snap to) would be nice, too. I know I'm not the developer, so I can't really be telling them how to make their game >.>

The pulsing texture thing is a consequence of how 3D rendering works, it’s present in a lot of games and it’s a problem about what to render first since they are at the same location. Here is a useful tip for when you get the geared locomotives you can't 100% reg them immediately you WILL wheel slip like no tomorrow so I usually just start at like 10%-15% reg then increase it as needed and that's what I do for the climax, the Heistler as of now can't go over 80% reg it likes to wheel slip but you can get it to 100% reg it just a pain but both of those engines are power houses just not speed demons and they can go up steep grades no problem for your current track to iron mine one of them will work great (most I have gone up so far is 5% grade with a 10 car consist and only used about 20-30% reg)

So instead of completing the bow at the end of the shunt yard, what if you replaced the switch at the end. Wanted to give a heads up kan but some of the bigger engines might have a wheel slip bug which makes your whole train move backwards even on flat ground when you try to start moving. Also The iron ore hoppers are apparently A LOT heavier than they are suppose too. I know the Heisler have it really bad because it’s super powerful but ain’t sure about the other one you were looking at. To get it moving if it dose happen, all you have to do is take it super slow at first and gain some speed for going 100% on the regulator. Saying if you do get the bug.

That texture "fighting" is called "Z buffer fighting" and it the fault of DirectX (and OpenGL). It's been around since the earliest days of DirectX and happens when 2 texture planes are in the same location - DirectX can't make up it's mind which texture gets priority so it flips back and fort between the two as you move the view around. The developers, even Unreal and Unity have no control over it. Only Microsoft can fix it and they haven't done anything about it in 25 years!
@SlackinPanda
@SlackinPanda 2 жыл бұрын
you cant fix it, unless you were to assign priority to certain renders; which would be more on the graphics/design team than anyone else and would likely end up with its own host of problems. The issue isn't that it isn't "fixed" its that the entire problem is caused by it rendering both, because it has to. If you said not to render one, it wouldn't render the other completely. This is why when handle texturing you offset things by .01 increments until it goes away, so that it wont render on the same visible plane as another texture. This is a limit of processing, not a limit of DirectX specifically. This isn't a Microsoft problem, either, despite what many would claim. There is no way to fix it because it tries to render both textures at the same time, because that's what it has to do.

@@SlackinPanda ... wasn't being condescending, but I've been working with 3D graphics, game content, and 3D game graphics and this problem for 25 years. The problem is that DirectX decides which of two textures in the same location gets rendered on every frame, especially if the view "camera" is moving. A solution was given quite a few years ago that a one time decision could be made if both objects were static - decide which texture takes precedence and stick with it. Part of that solution WAS implemented in Dx; if the camera is dead still the texture flashing stops - it didn't used to.

the weird flashing with the textures has a name, it's called Z fighting, 2 textures trying to occupy the same space

You should get the class 70, it is very powerful and they fixed the breaks.

what i think would cool for this game is terraforming so you can make tunnels and flatten hills.

What would be nice to see is a update to the switches since many ones irl if a train coming to one ans it's not locked in place the train wheels will force it to open to the direction of the train

That texture flashing is call z-fighting, and is both textures trying to be visible. It happens in a lot of games, people just don't notice it.

That would be so cool if they added the UP 4014 Big Boy

Here I was wondering if the multiple day delay between videos was because kAN had another project that took him 2+ IRL days (plus editing time). Was excited to see another RRO video, but it's just a shunting video...

kAN you definitely should link the groundwork to the track, it won’t change the height and it’ll follow the curves a lot better. The height is determined by the height of your cursor when you first place it, after that it’ll remain at whatever height that is, even when linking to track. Also, when doing the straight track with the 90° you should just continuously link the track to every two 90’s in one go, then you can go through and delete all the 90°s all at once.

I have a D&RG class 70 locomotive and it does have brakes. On my way to the iron ore mine I have a 10% grade and it can go up it with 9 plank cars easily. I just wanted you to know.

The texture glitches are called Z-fighting and it is exactly that, a texture occupying the same space so the graphics engine does not know which to display.

You should definitely play Satisfactory again, it’s on steam now and has very regular updates, and most importantly, Update 5 has just come out! Huge amount of new things and there’s a large server feature now!

Can you place a fuel depot at the logging camp? That should allow you to farm money easier, with a much shorter trip. Or maybe no trip at all if you place it opposite the loading platform, just load the cars on one side and unload them on the other?

Just an observation but the route to the oil field and refinery seems pretty flat. It might make a good running field for the Class 70, Cooke Mogul, and perhaps the (cough) Eureka. Meanwhile, if you get a Geared locomotive, I myself have the Heisler which has a max water capacity of 6,000 and seems pretty stable (you can go up to 65% reg before wheel slip, 75% with sander on based on Sevex2020's experiments and can handle a 10-degree incline), it would be good for the mountainous terrain like the iron mine, smelter, and coal mine.
