It's time! It's time!
It's time again for One Book July!
This year we are doing a free-for-all, and I am focusing on building a planning system. I originally wanted to talk about all different kinds of planning systems, but the more I thought about it, I didn't feel educated enough to talk about the plethora of systems out there. And, let's face it... every system I've ever used always defaults to my core, fundamental system anyway! It makes more sense for me to talk about the system I know best -- my own!
So let's spend the month talking about planning system and planning mechanics. What is the main framework that holds it all together (the system)? What are the mechanics of that system (how all of the disparate parts work together)?
If One Book July is your time to simplify, go back to basics, and see what exactly you need in a planner (essentially, building a system from scratch), then let's dig in!

This is the video series I've been waiting for! I've admired your system for years, but couldn't fully wrap my head around how you handled the different calender inserts and not rewrite stuff all the time.

I’m so excited! I didn’t do a very good job of explaining what exactly I have in mind for the month (maybe I do have a cold after all…). I thought that this might be helpful for those who have a system in place but maybe it isn’t clicking, and also for those who are simplifying for the month and can build their own system as we go, hopefully finding some helpful bits and pieces to incorporate to build their own unique system. I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you!

Yes on defaulting to a certain system. I do that. This month I do plan (heh heh!) on digging into that a little more and tightening it so that I have a clearer sense of what that is and how it can be moved from one book to the next! Happy One Book July to you.

I replied in the wrong spot for the vid lol. Carrie, I think you did a great job at explaining what your plan for the month is! I am excited to dig deeper into the system I default to. It’s like taking it down to the bare bones see what It is that brings me back. Hope you are feeling better.

I have been part of One Book July since 2015 and decided before I saw any 2022 OBJ video's to go back to basics with a spiral notebook, black ink pen, fine sharpie's and a ruler to just plan out and try layouts, NO stickers, washi tape and epherma and create a list of the items that I am missing as I go thru the month to see what do I really like to use and finding new ways to journal and plan. Thanks for taking on the challenge and looking forward to your video's..

I love this so much!! This was my hope for this year’s idea, that people who wanted to start fresh might be able to build a system from the ground up. I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you!

I truly enjoy the original concept of One Book July. It was the month for planners to get back to basics and be part of a group with other planners doing the same thing.... such a great concept. I personally think that this theme of a free for all kind of takes away the "event" aspect. However, I absolutely love your planner videos so I am looking forward to seeing you do a deep dive, which you do so well... just hope you post more than one video. :)

I’m excited to follow along with your deep dive. I’m glad the theme isn’t anything crazy different this year because just last month I moved into a TN so I’m finally all in one book for July! 😅

Thank you so much for doing this and mentioning the “system” aspect! I have been all over the place in the last couple years, but previously I always had a spiral planner with months and vertical weeks. That’s what I’m used to and it always worked! I don’t care for the spirals anymore, but I’m going back to basics with my verticals and sticking to that for the month. It feels so great already!! 🥰👍🏻

Looking forward to a deep dive on your system Carie. I'm particularly interested in Projects--it's something I struggle with in my system, which is straight-up BJ. (But I love me some planner system inserts too!) Love your channel!

What planner cover are you using and what size is it? Tn?
@CarieHarling
@CarieHarling 2 жыл бұрын
It is a TN! It’s from Chic Sparrow. The leather is Austen, the color is Darcy, and the size is Pocket. I’ve had it for years, so their current pocket configurations differ from what I have in mine.

Love the video! This may sound off topic, but I noticed a black spot on your left hand. Have you gotten this checked out? My MIL had melanoma that looked eerily similar so I just wanted to make sure you’re okay! ❤️

You are so kind! That spot drives me mad, and I’ve had it checked multiple times. Apparently it’s fine. (Honestly, if my insurance would cover it, I’d have it removed just so I don’t have to look at it anymore.) Thank you so much for your kind concern!

It’s from ChicSparrow.com. The leather is Austen, the color is Darcy, and it’s in the Pocket size. I’ve had it for a long time, so their current pocket configurations vary from what you see in mine.

I am kicking myself for not doing a better job of verbalizing what I have in mind for the month. I can see it clearly in my head, but I think I did an awful job of putting it into words. Many people are simplifying this month, looking to “clean out” or “tweak” their current system. Others don’t have a system and are using this month to hopefully build one from the ground up. I thought that the best way I could be helpful would be to show how my whole system works, in hopes that it might give people some useful bits and pieces to incorporate as they build their system. I am also sad about the Readalong. I know that, with what’s on my plate right now, I won’t be able to do it as well as it deserves to be done. I don’t want to do anything halfway for all of you; that doesn’t sit well with my heart. I am truly sorry that you’re sad about this decision, and I hope that you’re still able to enjoy One Book July.
