Very simple build indeed and serves it purpose. My booth is very similar, instead of the 2x4, I used a piece of 1/4 × 1" metal bar attached like your 2x4. Reason for that was I can ground the bar at the top and use metal dog leash type hooks and slide them wherever. This way everything is grounded. I did like your use of the light position, may need to use this idea as well. Good luck on your projects.

I used this as a guide to build my spray booth. However on the fans instead of using weather stripping, I removed the back grating and used those screws to attach the fan to the back of the wall. I tightened these screws up to pull the fan frame up tight against the wall, thus not needing the weather stripping. Also I used bolts with washers and nuts to hold the walls to the shelf frame.

Nice build! definitely gonna do something similar, thanks for the ideas! Just a warning: you need the fans to have explosion proof motors for regular paint. Normal motors can spark and ignite aerosols.

Thanks dude! I'm not too worried about the sparking of the fan motors with the powder. I rarely, if ever, use aerosol paints in the booth, but that is a good safety warning. 👍

This ... this is great. I dont have the words. Well, I do, but YT comment section couldnt do it justice, I simply have too many curse words that I would like to use for emphasis. Im impressed, every vid I watch of you, seeing what you do, always with economy in mind, spending where capital is important and not spending where it is okay to skimp a bit on quality. You have a great mind, Ill say that. Where ever you work Im sure you dont get paid enough. Im wanting to start powdercoating. 2 main hurdles are oven and clean up. This vid very nicely assuages my clean up hurdle. Now, what about that amazing looking walk in oven you got? Anything you can share about that, please😁

Perfect timing! I just had a steel delivery show up for a rolling booth that will sit over my re-purposed kitchen oven when it's not in use. Making the box out of plywood and Melamine like you did, but also making it removable from the steel frame if I ever run into problems. I think my garage is tinier than yours. :(

I planned to build a folding one at first, but then I came across the storage rack and it was perfect for me. I occasionally do some fairly heavy items, so the steel skeleton won vs a folding design for my shop.

Hello, firstly I want to say thank you for making this video. I really appreciate your efforts and knowledge. I have a question, I’m setting up a powder coating booth for commercial production and I was wondering what brand of powder coating system do you use or recommend? Thanks again for everything!
@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 2 жыл бұрын
I use the Hyper Smooth 02 from Columbia Coatings. It's an awesome unit, but I don't know if it's up to the task of "commercial production." The fluid hoppers that it comes with hold 2-3lbs of powder, so it can certainly do a lot, but I don't know how big your talking about. Columbia Coatings has several other guns, and I've been happy with the variety of other products that they carry as well.

I do have a little bit of powder that gets through the filter. Seems to be mostly from around the edges of the filter and the filter frame. I think some weatherstrip may go a long way. Behind my booth, the corrugated wall seems to do a great job of slowing down the airflow and the powder falls to the floor. I haven't found much powder on anything around the shop.

Have you been doing much coating since you built this? Have you had any powder making it through the filter system and out into your shop? I just bought an armoire and want to modify that but want to try to capture all of the powder. I currently have it set up similar to yours but haven't tried it out yet.
@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 3 жыл бұрын
I have done a fair amount of powdercoating since I built this. It does allow some powder to go through, but i think most of that is around the edges of the filter. Maybe some tape or sealant at the edges would help, but in my shop its not the biggest issue for me. I was also thinking of a pre-filter or just one of the double thick filters.
@KMLTimesTwo
@KMLTimesTwo 3 жыл бұрын
@@tinygaragefab I thought about building a small box section with filters. Then hook up a shop vac with dust collector on it. Not sure if it will pull the volume of air needed to suck the powder to the filters though. Maybe I will keep the fan.....and still do the same? Anyway, thanks for the video.

Have you had any trouble running your control box sideways like that? I'm looking at buying a set of folding shelf brackets for mine, so I can set it horizontal for use, then fold it down for storage. What thread are the holes in the side of the box?
@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 3 жыл бұрын
I have had zero trouble. I ran it vertical for a very long time, and have done a lot of coating like it is now. Holes are standard thread, either 1/4-20 or 5/16-18, I can't remember exactly which.

@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 4 жыл бұрын
@@serrano1558 the Hyper Smooth is great! I've used cheap Eastwood guns (horrible) and super expensive ($10k) Gema units. This performs up there with the Gema for small and shop use. I highly recommend the cup gun accessory. The original hoppers are good also, but they don't send enough latex tubing with the kit, so you have to hold on to them...its kinda annoying.

@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 3 жыл бұрын
I used some fairly cheap filters from Home Depot. They were about $10 for a 3-pack. Honestly, they aren't that great...they do the job for one or two uses, then they start to let some powder get through. I'll have to get some filters that are rated for smaller particles and smoke if I want them to work better, but they are about $15 each. *ouch*

@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be so worried. The guy commented, but literally anything electric can spark and start a fire whenever, but it usually doesn't happen. If you get your PC gun too close to the part, it will spark from gun to part and that doesn't start fires. So I wouldn't worry about a box fan.

can the powder be recovered from the filter?
@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 3 жыл бұрын
Technically, yes. But as soon as you change a different color, you'd need to change filters. And the price of filters is more than the cost of powder. Basically, it isn't worth it at all, IMHO.
@happstreeservice1147
@happstreeservice1147 3 жыл бұрын
@@tinygaragefab probably a stupid question, Are you saying you have to change the filters if you powder coat a different color? Why would that be if the fans are on and the powder cant go backwards? What am i missing? Great video as Im going to copy u for sure!
@tinygaragefab
@tinygaragefab 3 жыл бұрын
I was saying that if someone wanted to recover excess powder from the filters, than you would want to change filters so that you could keep the powder 'pure.' I don't recover powder because I don't think its worth the hassle. I run my filters until they get so dirty that they don't work as well.
