We are huge fans of in-ground permanent pen systems, but in a pinch or when you're starting out, you can always find a panel and some twine.

You are one smart cookie! Some of the solutions you come up with are shear genius. I always love watching you at work. You and your wife are true professionals, always coming up with these innovative improvisations to keep the animals safe while helping them out with a shear. And you're so compassionate with the animals trying to make sure they're not stressed out or overheating and taking care to position them to ensure you get a quick shear with as few nicks as humanly possible. The term "poetry in motion" certainly describes you young lady. I'm a huge fan who's eagerly looking forward to more video's for a long time to come hopefully. 💜

@@rightchoiceshearing you're very welcome and I mean every word. You have made shearing into an artform. You girls keep doing what you love and I'll be here watching! I just love and admire you ladies, you're both wonderful and I love seeing you working together. Not too many couples can work together that well. I KNOW there's no way I could work with my husband that closely day after day for those long hot hours without killing him and hiding the body. 🤣🤣🤣💜

You're both in the wrong country 😩you need to be here in South Australia 😊 so you can do all of our babies and all of my friends babies too. I don't need a catch pen for my guys they're so friendly when I call each one they come running. I am going to try a different shearer this year because I was really angry how our regular shearer treated my babies. One of my boys ended up with a huge hole in the top of his head, and Ringo is such a sweetheart. I had to stitch him up and give him antibiotics for 5 days. NOT HAPPY!! Thank you both for being you❤❤xx

I would have argued at a younger age that it didn’t because I wash it off. I have callouses and what not, but I’ve noticed a difference in how dry my hands get in the off season. So the lanolin must be doing some good!

Moes the time to start taking care of yourself and wear a brace, because as you probably know, once it’s gone it’s gone. It is for me and I HATE it sooo much. I lost the ability to simply take walks with my dog, to do detailed cleaning on my house and car, even washing the windows is a killer. I am currently waiting for my next surgery on my back. @GrainneDhu
@GrainneDhu Жыл бұрын
Sheep only have teeth in the front of their lower jaw. They have a hard plate in their upper jaw that they use to pinch the vegetation against as they move their head upwards to let the lower teeth shear the vegetation. So they could give a hard pinch but, as someone who used to train working stockdogs, I never met a sheep that tried it. Sheep that want to be aggressive butt. And they can butt really, really hard, hard enough to break a human leg if they hit it just so or to knock a human out. I was lucky to have Belgian Shepherds (the AKC knows them as Belgian Tervuren and Belgian Sheepdogs), who are continental working dogs and who were very protective of me. The single time a ram managed to sneak past my dog to butt my hand, my dog flashed in from nowhere and delivered a disciplinary nip to that ram's nose before the ram (or I) knew what was happening. That was the last time that day the ram tried that little move on me! That ram was also the reason the owner was hiring me. The owner had a Border Collie but the sheep had learned that they could bully the Border Collie and the Border Collie had given up on the sheep. Wouldn't even go into the pasture with them. My continental-style herding dogs didn't rely on eye to move the sheep, they relied on body blocks, grips (where they would grab a sheep by the leg and physically pull it around) and nips--they never injured a sheep but they sure intimidated those sheep who thought they could scare dogs. Those sheep learned fast that while they might intimidate Border Collies, the Belgians were unimpressed. One of the jobs my dogs and I used to do for various small flock owners was acting as living gates on shearing day.

Sheep don't bite. They jump, kick and headbutt. I've raised 100s of sheep over 11 years, never once got bit. I've gotten rammed and jumped into but that's it.
