I was blessed to grow up with parents that had multiple businesses. I was running torches by the age of 8 and stick welding by 10. My weld and torch cuts at that age looked just like the stuff entry level college students do in their early 20s. Don't worry about how things look right now so long as they work. Getting better will come with experience and time. You are doing just fine :)

Cap’n, you gave my dentist a run for the money today… he is always telling me that another tooth needs to be drilled and filled. Or worse, come out. You put in a whole lower set without anesthetic, blinding lights and warning that I need to take out a second mortgage! I’m gonna send him a link to this video… he can learn a thing or two! I like the design. Thanks for the peek at the Whoppa Choppa and beauty of the 755 showing off her new tail piece! Stay warm bud… it is 11f here with blowing snow. And it’s coming your way!

Captain a little tip with your torch. Move faster get your tip closer and turn your torch down doesn't need to be so hot. With it being so hot and moving so slow your cutting in front of your tip and its trying to weld back together behind your tip this will make your cut cleaner when you're done. Ask Man Behind the Scenes about this he can show you in person what I'm talkin about. Also 7018 is a little over kill. Yes it's really good rod but 6011 or 6010 would be better when you're still learning how to weld. Advice coming from a professional pipeline welder of 30 years

Great job! There's nothing like O.J.T.! When I started farming I quickly learned there were things you could not farm without: air compressor, cutting torches, welder and 4 x 4 pickup! With my old Ford T-20 small square baler, I'd bale awhile, run to the shop and weld on it for awhile! But, I ran 20,000 bales through it and sold it for more than I paid for it. One thing about that baler: it never missed a knot! Thanks, Mike! PS: At 7 am this am, we had 1/8" of frozen rain on the ground. I could not stand up on my gravel drive. Be safe! Lee

Great ideas for a road drag. If you get a piece of material the same height as you need the torch it eliminates the jerky up and down motion and you can concentrate on cutting speed. 20 yrs ago I bought a tri square for cutting metal. The tri square for metal is 3times as big as for wood,a brass ruler and magnets for helping hold it place how you want it with a sliding piece that will go up against the metal for a square cut. The brass ruler sits 3/8" to 1/2" above your material your cutting and a cutting tip slides along it very easy. I think mine was around $80 when I bought it. It is one of my most used metal tools. I also bought a 4' one that came with 2 tri square magnets. Drag looks good.
