Skincare as supporting act - is that something you utilize as well?

For rosacea, yes. I do wish my parents had let me go to a dermatologist but I didn’t really get to see a doctor for any health issues. It wasn’t about money. But there are just so many long-term or permanent consequences if you don’t treat some health problems: physically and psychologically. Minors are an especially vulnerable group because it is completely up to the parents if they get regular check ups, usual dentist visits, get to see a psychiatrist for any psychological issue. I know that I have essentially been gaslit into not appropriately seeking medical attention because of it. I saw a doctor once between the ages of 12 and 23 and I just don’t remember prior to that. Rosacea is usually later onset and ideally adults would have the skills and resources to make their own informed decisions if they were going to try the skincare route: if it were a mild case. But the world is not ideal and people are not informed

@@moose8762 In Germany, check-ups for minors are required by law and have to be performed at defined times in the life of a child, several times during the first year and after that yearly until the kid is age 6 and every other year afterwards. It stops being mandatory at the age of 12, but until then kids are usually seen often. There are of course ways to trick that system if you want to, by delibratly missing the appointments or changing the doctor for every one of them so there is never a basis of trust build, but I remember being called by my kids pediatrician that wanted to know why I only ever bring them for their mandatory checkups and never in between - which simply wasn't ever necessary as I felt well equipped to see to their minor complaints in between myself. But still, they see her usually twice a year, in spring for their annual checkup and in fall for the flu shot.

@@DoctorAnne I don’t think we have that. We have free healthcare for children under the age of 6 and a public health nurse will arrange appointments at certain dates to check for developmental issues at certain periods up to the age of 3. But I don’t think even that is mandatory. Would have saved me a lot of trouble if there were mandatory check ups with a competent doctor because I think I quite clearly had social issues and I was too intelligent for my age. What is worse - and I don’t know if my mother was lying to try to hurt my feelings - but she said one time to me, when she was drunk in Berlin, that a doctor said I “had autism” - which I don’t think you can diagnose in a single check up - at 2 years old. So, if that is true, my parents ignored it and never got treatment for me and instead spent years calling me that as an insult

There are so many people now making skincare related videos, but you are definitely one of those, that make high quality content. I'm seriously amazed - the fact that your advice actually helped a person with their skin, the clear before/after pictures, the check ins with adjustments based on results, the fact that the products you chose are accessible to the person you are helping, the fact that you encourage people to go to professionals instead of just spending money on products that won't work etc. This is seriously amazing content! I couldn't even find a way where you could make this better/clearer. I feel like I'm actually getting educated :) Have a nice day! 🌻

Hi Dr Anne I think it was an improvement, even before the visit to the Dermatologist. Here in the UK we cannot access Dermatologists (or other specialists), without a referral from our Family Doctor/General Practitioner and truthfully it's only really done for severe cases. Unfortunately for all of us with rosacea our skincare triggers can be different and having tried both spf's mentioned neither works for me. Even spf's from the baby section are mostly useless for my skin - huge irritation and even welts on patch testing. A few spf's I can use are: The paula's choice calm mineral spf30 normal/dry - best for the colder months as it's not water resistant Skinceuticals mineral spf50 lotion (tinted or untinted are available) - it is very moisturising and has an almost primer like finish on the skin, but isn't good for hot/humid conditions as it tends to melt off. I LOVE it in the colder months. Avene mineral spf50 lotion - similar to the skinceuticals in texture although less moisturising (both tinted an untinted available). I like this one in slightly warmer weather. Ultrasun spf50+ (extreme, tinted, face or anti pigmentation - they all work the same on my skin) is what I use in the hot/humid weather. It's too drying on my already very dry/eczema and rosacea prone skin in colder weather, but holds up really well in the Summer when I'm a little less dry. This brand is (so far) the only non mineral spf's I've been able to tolerate on my skin and I also use their lip spf. I can't use any of the chemical spf's from LRP, Avene, Bioderma, Altruist, Cetaphil, Simple, Isispharma, cereve, No 7 and even hybrid spf's are an issue. The beauty of Josean spf was extremely irritating as was the isntree HA spf. This is where I have the most issues of any step of a skincare routine - there are many cleansers/moisturisers/toners/essences/serums my skin is ok with, obviously all fragrance and EO free and with gentle formulations. Spf is the area I have spent the most money trying things and using them on my body and hands, or simply having to give them away to friends/family. The options listed above may work for some others who are struggling, but please bear in mind I have very dry/eczema prone skin as well as the rosacea - I'm not sure those with oily skin will like these. Best wishes.

I have reactions to many sunscreens. I'm using Kiss Me Mommy UV Gel. It's a Japanese sunscreen. NO fragrance, NO EO, NO alcohol in it. I tolerate it very well. For around my eyes I use Vanicream's lip SPF. It's all mineral and fabulous. Doesn't leave white around my eyes either.

Hi Ann. I have dry sensitive skin, probably with rosacea type I, and also have struggled with sunscreen. The chemical ones were irritating and the mineral ones drying, greasy, or both. However, in recent years new chemical sunscreen filters appeared, and products, where these new formulas replaced the irritating ones, started appearing even on the European market. Last and this summer I use Sundance sunscreens from DM drugstore for both my face and body and on my kids (suffering from eczema) without an issue. Just look for the label "ohne octocrylene", these are free of avobenzone too. From the texture point of view, I prefer those in bottles to those in tubes. I have noticed Rossmann has some sunscreens with the "ohne octocrylene" label too, but I haven't tested them yet (they don"t carry dedicated facial sunscreen, though).
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have used the "ohne Octocrylene" ones in my children as well when they were younger, as both have a tendency for atopic dermatitis (same as me and my sisters). My kids still usually use Sundance, but they are less picky in terms of texture than I am.

The Avene day cream ironically irritates my skin. Products that leave build up/white cast like that - with the titanium dioxide and such - tend to cause my face to flush: particularly when washing them off. I bought it on sale and I find it does collect in facial hairs and in creases too. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying their serum but the price tag for their patented complex that may not help. I do find that thermal spring water sprays irritate my skin though, so that could be an issue. I find rosacea interesting. Very difficult to treat and very multifaceted. Very individual, lifestyle components, reactions to food, heat, stress etc. With acne, you can generally expect that if you give them isotretinoin, it will clear up. But many people with rosacea have to go through many treatments until something works. Based on anecdotes online, there seems to be an issue with misdiagnoses too and people will go to multiple doctors, be told it is rosacea and eventually a dermatologist will tell them it is seborrheic dermatitis or an allergic reaction or KPRF. I was reading someone’s Twitter thread about their skin condition online and from the picture, immediately thought it was seborrheic dermatitis but it turned out to be a reaction to isothiazolinone.
@DoctorAnne

Skin conditions are SO hard to diagnose, especially the rashes, which is why I see the trend for self-diagnosis with a lot of worry. people will spend a ton of money on products that will most likely not work because they gave themselves a diagnose based on something they read on the internet.

@@DoctorAnne I also think this is why most GPs should just refer most skin issues that aren’t acne to dermatologists. I don’t think they are equipped to handle them. I just had the only didactic dermatology lecture we will be getting and it covered 4 skin conditions and the tumours. The conditions were urticaria, lichen planus, eczema, and psoriasis.
