How we built a small off grid cabin from start-to-finish using a portable sawmill with no talking. To purchase a Norwood Sawmill please use this link: bit.ly/3O9SnXA
We show everything from setting and digging the pillars, cutting the 2x4's, ripping siding, cutting roof trusses, installing the metal roof, installing windows, chimney, wood stove, decking and building the front door.
We use a Norwood hd36 portable sawmill to make nearly all the materials for this build from locally sourced timbers.
We use ash, cedar, and pine for most of the structure and siding.
We'll use cedar, pine, ash, maple, and whatever else we can scrounge up from the 30 acres around us. The aim is to avoid using as much store bought material as possible and keep the budget reasonably low.
Originally we set a budget of $1000, but that included the use of a frame from an old camper trailer. As we build, the budget will remain flexible in effort to produce a cabin that we are proud of and one that will last a long while, be comfortable, and sleep real human beings.

My Grandfather and Great-Grandfather built 2 homes and a little barbershop on their property in the early 1940’s. There wasn’t anyplace close by to get cinderblock from at that time, so they made their own using beach sand, etc. All of those buildings are still standing strong, through hurricanes and tornadoes. My mom lives in one house, and her sister is next door in the other.

This man truly has his own Paradise. One very lucky person. Now all you need to do is dig down 6ft in the earth and make a below ground green house. That way you could grow citrus and figs and what have ya up there. Video is on youtube as well.

Love the group work style you guys have. All business and getting it done! Looks awesome. My 18yo twin boys and I have been working on a NH mountain log cabin since March and finally got the floor and front porch done. Ready to start stacking logs tomorrow! Not easy working on it one day a week with a two hour drive but we’re enjoying the journey! Thanks

I apologize if other’s have commented that a plywood and moisture seal needs to be added under the metal roof to prevent insulation mold & rot from moisture, and the building will be more Energy efficient. Also, consider solar panels that interconnect all buildings via a water-proof tube to a main power utility building, or a small battery bank in each building that maintain the overall power share. The garden area will be nice for three wild perennial food varieties that can grow in your region, and a geothermal green-house for extended food season sustainability. Thanks for the interesting projects.
