Remember the Player Strat body that I refinished? I mentioned I would build something, and I finally have enough parts. Ride along as I assemble and setup the guitar. This will be a one-episode project.
A few parts in the episode:
String Action Gauge/Ruler: amzn.to/4a1qCJf
Feeler Gauges: amzn.to/3R4CyBq
Pre-wired pickguard: amzn.to/3RqwX9D
F Neck Plate: amzn.to/3NdnOiu
Who am I? I'm just a hobbyist, not a luthier. I've picked up a few skills along the way, and I continue to learn. If you're into DIY projects and musical instruments or gear, you may enjoy my channel. If you do, please like, subscribe, and leave a comment.

Nice work! I like the Tuxedo look against the wood stain. Gives it a little more class. Can't beat the value of a MiM Strat. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us!

Love the 70's look! Would have been nice if the neck had black block inlays. Good job!

I saw that on an old P bass. Pretty cool look.

Regarding "Tip and Ring" on a 1/4" jack.... That came from telephony. My Mom was a telephone operator. Later, much so, I was a telephone technician. I do love that Tip and Ring is still used to describe the points on a 1/4" jack.

Interesting. I hadn’t heard that, but it would make sense.

@@hacksguitarhobby At least I think I got that right. Perhaps it was the 1/4" jack that came from telephony, not the names for its parts.

Do you use any kind of wax on the wood screws? Looks great, by the way!
@hacksguitarhobby
@hacksguitarhobby 8 ай бұрын
No, never really been a wax guy. I should probably give it a try, though. I usually find that if you drill the right size pilot holes, you don’t need it.

great stuff, was slightly surprised by how 'hot' the pickups were ..... what was the temperature? ....(as DC goes up with temperature)
@hacksguitarhobby

Literally? I think it was around 70 degrees F in the garage. :)

@@hacksguitarhobby i just looked up the specs and it seems your Player pickups are within spec. I.e. they are wound with a bit more wire than vintage typ Strat PU's which hover around the 6k mark. But great job with the finish! Did it make the body lighter? I'm kind of joking but i think there is a lot of paint on them. Oh, 70F shouldn't affect it much but yes, DCR depends on temperature.
@hacksguitarhobby

It may have made a marginal weight difference, not significant though. The paint is very very thick, but it’s essentially plastic. :)

After staining, how did you seal the wood?
@hacksguitarhobby
@hacksguitarhobby 8 ай бұрын
It’s an oil rub. Minwax makes an antique oil finish and a tung oil finish that are both easy, but you could also spray just about any clear over this stain, which is just an alcohol based leather dye.

Would appreciate your thoughts . . . I like the iconic Strat shape but never use a tremolo. I don’t like the complexity of the tremolo preferring a hard tailed guitar. Is a Strat with the trem blocked effectively the same as a hard tailed guitar ? Will it be straightforward to replace strings and tune ? Regards Gordon
@hacksguitarhobby
@hacksguitarhobby 8 ай бұрын
It’s close, yes, probably differing a little in sustain and weight. It will be just as easy to string and tune. A better option might be for you to simply find a hard tail Strat.

Quick question, off topic... do you find the Peterson strobe is worth the $$$ over the Korg for daily use? I just can't justify the cost for home use yet. Thoughts?
@hacksguitarhobby
@hacksguitarhobby 8 ай бұрын
I guess it depends upon how much you value accuracy. I got it to nail intonation, but for the most part, it’s overkill. I probably should stick with solid state tuners because you can hear the Peterson whirring in videos.
