In this video, I'll take a look at one of the most popular watch collecting philosophies, the three watch collection. In each collection, I'll generally stick to a casual/everyday watch, dress watch, and a sport or dive watch to cover just about any situation you might find yourself in. We're also going to cover five different price brackets, so there should be something here for everyone.

As a collector all you really need is a Rolex Submariner, a Hamilton Khaki King, and a G-Shock. And an Omega, and a Sinn, and a Luminox, and a Tissot. At last a Patek, but since you have the Patek you need an AP and a Vacheron. And a. . .

Although 3 watches will be enough to be ready for everything, but 4 watches is the perfect number for me. A sport/beater for the weekend 2 everyday watches for work Monday to Friday in rotation so it does not get boring for me and lastly a dressier piece for more formal occasions.

In terms of colour variation, would you choose a lighter and darker face for the 2 everydays? Also the sport/beater, would this be a rubber /NATO strap dive with sapphire glass or something even more robust?

@@fajarramadhan3596 Thats a good idea for office wear, but my work and everyday wear is more towards casual, jeans daily so both are more or less sporty but very different, a Speedy Pro on a brown leather strap and a 40mm Air King on Everest green rubber strap.
@donaldneo4317
@donaldneo4317 2 жыл бұрын
@@harryjenkinson5121My current 4 watches are all black dials unfortunately but IMO still look quite different. My sports beater is a diver, Tudor Pelagos LHD on black rubber strap. The 2 everyday are my Speedy Pro and 40mm Air King as mentioned above and my dressier piece is my Black GMTc which is like a dressier Sub IMO due to the PCL and good enough for my occasional formal functions like weddings, biz meetings and etc... Although all black but the dials, straps and watch case looks very different. I also wear my Pelagos and GMTc from time to time even if I am not at the beach or in formal wear, I like to make sure I have ample wrist time with my watches therefore I would not get a pure dress watch as it will have too little wrist time for my lifestyle. I still stand by 4 watches is a perfect number IMO, just have to choose the 4 that matches your lifestyle.

The 3 piece collection I'm working towards is: 1. the Breitling Superocean 42 with the white dial, 2. the Nomos Club Campus and 3. a dress watch. I'm not sure which one 1 want, but depending in how much I like the Nomos I might just go with a Ludwig in 38mm or a Tetra if I wanna be a bit bolder.

I paid a little more than 2000 Dollars for my collection and have managed to cover quite some different aspects. I have a Seiko Alpinist Reinterpretation (subtle green dial) as fieldwatch option. (Got a good deal on it and paid almost 200 dollars under retail about 550$) A vintage King Seiko 5626 as dresswatch. (50 years old and runs between +0 and +1 second per day. Absolutely insane movement. Also the finishing beats everything from switzerland from that period of time) (Paid 400 Dollars when they were a little less expensive than now. Every deal under 1000 dollars is still a bargain for those luxury-pieces) A Citizen Promaster as beater/diver(i don't really dive but i like a watch i could wear while swimming. Cost me about 160 Dollars) A Vintage swiss Chronograph with diving Bezel as everyday-watch (From the brand Pierce that fell victim to the Quartz-Crisis but they were the first ones that made Chronographs waterproof. Got a not-working one my father wore in his youth. Brought it to a talented watch-dealer that restored it nicely. Paid around 900$ for that service. Worth every penny. I never thought how useful a Chronograph with diving-bezel is for everyday-use. Everyone should look for something like that for real) And a Casio CFX-200 as digital calculator-watch. It is by far the King among all calculator-watches because it is a scientific-calculator. (Very expensive in good condition but absolutely worth it). I bought it from some guy who didn't really knew how much these pieces are worth and gave him 100 bucks because it was in very good condition. Saved me around 900 dollars because these are very rare collector-pieces. I'm an engineer so a normal calculator-watch is absolutely wasted on me, because i don't need a calculator-watch for simple arithmetic operations. the trigonometric and exp-functions on the CFX-200 are quite useful for me because i am an electrical engineer.

Hi Teddy, I like this kind of videos. And the three piece collection is quite a challenge. It would be nice to see a series of videos trying to build a three piece collection from one brand only. An everyday, a dress and a sports watch. You could stretch the series from Casio to Patek Philippe. Best regards, Claus P.S.: If I have to pick three watches of my current collection it would be my Rolex OP 39 with the rhodium dial as an everyday watch, my Reverso Small Second medium as a dress watch and my Omega Seamster Diver 300m as the sport watch.

Another great set of watches. I really like a few Omegas as all around, everyday watches, but none are exactly perfect… Aqua Terra has the applied indicies, twisted lugs and exhibition caseback, but wish there was an all brushed version like the Railmaster, which is so close but the face is all flat and I really want to see the co-axial movement. The ‘21 Seasmaster 300 is another cool watch with a similar vibe, and at least a reversal of the polished to the outer links so it’s not quite as shiny, but it has the straight lugs… decisions…

I would need just one more watch in every collection. Pilot or field. Otherwise, quite bold and interesting choice you have made. Great video btw 👏

3 watch collection is ideal--you have choices but it's not a neurosis. agreed on the general categories. my sweet spot is one sporty watch (a diver for the water resistance), one dressier one with gold tones and another dressier one with silver tones (for each belt/buckle combination)

I'm a college student rn. $1000 is probably as high as I can go for now lol. Maybe when I graduate they'll gift me my dream watch (omega moonwatch or grand seiko snowflake/birch). But for now, I'll stick to more affordable watches and aspiring for something like a tudor or oris lol

I am a 3 watch collection convert (we don’t count a GShock do we?!!). Currently Oris Divers 65 bronze bezel; Seiko CT blue Moon; and CWard c60 Trident 600. Very happy with all 3. But could equally see myself evolving this in coming years to an all Oris 3 watcher. Adding the BC pointer date and Aquis to my 65. Perfection! For me at least.

My current 3 watch collection is an Oris Diver 65, an Alpina Seastrong Heritage, and a Seiko Arnie. They give me variety but I don't have to worry about any of them. If I was limited to $1000, I would go with a used Diver 65 and a GShock. Both the 65 and the Alpina are great everyday watches that you don't have to baby and they are a big step up from the Seiko and Orient divers. I'm not sure that I'll make that jump up to Omega or Tudor but we'll see.

I'm working on building a collection. Currently I have: Work watch - Casio A158W Every Day watch - Samsung galaxy smart watch Dress watch - Hamilton Khaki H70555533 This Fall I'll be buying an Omega aqua terra with the silver dial to scratch the explorer itch while saving some money. Really the only other watches I'm interested in are a speedmaster, and a tudor gmt pepsi

I'm going for a three watch collection where I wanted one Rolex, one Omega, and one Grand Seiko since to me these 3 are like the not-as-holy-trinity compared with the actual holy trinity of AP, PP, and VC. So far I have the Rolex Datejust 36mm (126234) and I'll be getting an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 39.5mm soon. For the Grand Seiko, I want it to be a Spring Drive and probably something on the dressier side.
