In this installment of stupid things young-adult guys do, we observe the idious manicus, commonly known as carpenter youtuber, jumping on the bench he made several months ago, and just didn’t post until now, while his ax is still on the half-built bench, and dangerously close to his feet.
Ok, enough playing around. Yes, he did something stupid, but really, honestly, the end product is pretty nice! No missing feet! Made from Doug Fir, Ash, and Oak, glued together, and attached to the legs with mortise and tenon joints. We also attached an old wood vise to the side. That video is already up on our KZfaq channel, link below! Overall, it’s a good looking workbench.
(We do not condone the actions of our much-beloved, and at times concerningly thoughtless, KZfaqr).
How to sharpen planer blades • How to sharpen planer ...
Restoring old vise • If tools could talk.

Eoin Reardon in Ireland used ash for all his axe and hatchet handles. He says that it works great and because ash is in an abundance there, it just makes sense. I have personally never used ash

He's the guy who started me on the quandary. I'm wondering why he's not having trouble, and I am. We're both Irish :)

Ash is the ideal handle material because it's flexible, it absorbs blows, goes easy on your hand. Oak in comparison is stiffer but is like a marble trying to come to a still on a concrete floor.

I'm in the Seattle area. We have a native Mountain Ash but it's not good for lumber, might be good for handles. I believe the lumber store Ash we get here is mostly from the Midwest. If there are different types of Ash there, I'd like to know what they are. I think Hickory is a good handle wood. We have Madrone here it's as hard as Hard Maple. I've been air drying some to try out as chisel handles. Thanks for the video

We have something called green ash, and black ash. I think I work with green ash for the most part, but I'm not sure.
