Building an Ice Igloo in -30° - AMBUSHED BY WOLVES in The Middle of The Frozen Lake

In this adventure I am building my definitely most difficult shelter ever. It took me way more time to cut the ice blocks with only hand tools than expected and consumed most of my energy. I also had a wolf pack encounter the first day which is very rare here in Norway. I didn't bring along any firewood to make a campfire to scare the wolves off, and decided to pack my stuff slowly and get away from the lake as soon as possible. It was definitely a SCARY encounter as they became curious and didn't move, and it was on Christmas eve so there were not a single person around. I managed to finish the igloo/ice shelter in 6 days with temperatures dropping to -30 degrees, and installed a tent stove inside of it keeping me pretty warm the whole night as the thick ice blocks insulated well. The only drawback was that the temperature rose the last day and the heat from the stove melted the ice walls inside and made the floor a bit wet. All in all, the hardest but MOST FUN adventure so far. Enjoy my friends.

I suppose when choosing a location, pick somewhere that provides an option to run to safety. Whether it be a tree close by or precipice making it at least challenging for wolves or bears to attack you. Secondly, it seems reasonable that one would want to have the igloo floor sloping out the door or some other drainage for if inside ice melts. I've not seen anyone cover this aspect of building.

I kept watching to see the ambush by the wolves. I guess my idea of an ambush involves an attack, not just a sighting. I would have had some kind of weapon or tool with me to fend off an attack. Aside from that, you are a truly hard worker to go to all that work to build an igloo to keep warm! Was it worth it? Obviously you didn't need fish. 😊

I had the ice saw, few knives and an axe but that wouldn't help much against 5 wolves. Unfortunately, it's illegal to carry firearms in Norway outside the hunting season. One of the wolves (the pack leader) actually went inside the forest and come out from the other side while I was packing and he came to the campsite few minutes after I left. I didn't have a chance to film that as I packed my stuff ASAP and left.

It has been a harsh winter in Norway, I felt that they came close to me as they were hungry but afraid at the same time. Maybe to check if I was injured. They kept waiting for me for a while.

It looks so peaceful even though the wolves were out and about. Here on our land, we have coyotes. Smaller than wolves. However, they have packs, and if you are down on the river at night, you need a large fire 🔥 and if they become too aggressive, the first time a sling shot to the nose. If they start surrounding us, then we take out the rifles. You have such amazing skills. Thank you for sharing this with us. Have you ever a wolf try to sneak inside the igloo before?.😮 That would be a tense few minutes.

@@corinabizzell6299 It was my first encounter with wolves, but I knew that they were going to keep the distance even though they were curious. But as they are wild animals and predators, one can never know if they will attack or not. That's why I decided to leave as I didn't bring along any firewood to make a fire :)

No concern about cooking attracting wild life such as bears? Lucky you observed wolves. It appeared they had no interest in hurting you although curious. Interesting that they weren’t scared away by you screaming at them. It made them more curious. Lovely scene.

Thankfully, there are very few brown bears in this area, and most of them are hibernating throughout the winter. But they might get out soon from their dens as the spring is approaching.

It kind of look like a your creating sick traps that an wild animal or even a random person could accidentally walk over at a later time and fall in. A human might have a chance but the wildlife most likely won't.

You're absolutely right, but it was so cold that the holes froze in few hours. At the coldest the ice got 2 inches thick in just a day

Bueno eso de construir el igloo y vivir en esa área demasiado fría . fue tu decisión y no de más nadie lo único que admire que el hambre te sobraba y con suerte porque no se donde guardaste los steaks y comida que cocinabas y eso de los lobos pues ni siquiera vi que se acercaron . Pata mi Ambush es cuando te tienen acorralado con intenciones de atacar . Pero vos no siquiera un rifle llevaste ojalá no te de una neumonía

I want to know how cold it was even though you made it through handy had a fire I bet it was still cold I used to be homeless and I lived outside in the cold most of the time I can get warm or a lot of times I'll still cold he's got to be freezing still
