This is a time lapse build of a custom Tamiya Blitzer Beetle (2011 re-release kit #58502). In this video, I record my build and some of the custom work in time lapse mode. At the end of the video I show the complete results of the build.

Notes:
I really didn’t plan on building a Blitzer Beetle. Although it’s a fun looking kit, it’s not something I’m immediately attracted to. However, the actual VW Beetle car reminds me a lot of the time I spent and stayed with my aunt during the summers as a little kid. She had a 1300 and she took me everywhere with her in that car. As a kid, those days where the some of best days because I was very much into cars-and the sound of that air cooled engine is burnt in my memory. She was also a great driver and always drove her bug like she stole it. So this build is a tribute to her and her car.
This is my first time working on a Tamiya plastic hard shell (or any plastic scale model). I have to admit it wasn’t easy because of the 1/10 scale and it took me way longer than I had planned. The goal for the theme or look is to build/design something that I’d want to drive if it were a real car. The understated look is a nod to my like of things that are classic or timeless looking. Obviously, there are limits to what can be done from a skill and financial level.
I did want black paint from the very beginning and a different set of wheels-which was the challenge. The Blitzer Beetle has bearing type wheels on the front and so I had to do a little research and ended up using TL01 front parts make hex wheels work. I also wanted to add some engine sound because I think it’s fitting for this build. I used an ESS One+ 2017 sound simulator. Then the other highlight is the rear. I wanted something at first glance to look real car with a modified air cooled engine. So I had to figure what metal bits and parts could be combined to create that look. I completed it with a vintage Trinity Monster Horsepower (#RC2000) stock motor.
As for the front fascia, I initially planned on using the supplied headlights and trim but it just looked too cute. Coincidentally, I saw a Porsche Macan Turbo with a four point headlight and it gave me the idea make something or to look for something similar. I eventually discovered Baja Designs (1:1 vehicles) and that there were actually 1/10 version of their squadron lights. Added some 9v battery fo a brighter output.
I also ended up switching out the driver helmet for an Avante one that I already had. I wanted the driver to be a woman-a tribute to my aunt. There are also other little details and customization in the video. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it.

the blitzer beetle was my first rc car as a kid. it had the original speedcontroller that was controlled with a steering servo. if not maintained properly, there was a chance that the servo was stuck on the fullthrottle point. and this was also the reason you ultimately needed to switch on the remote controller first and then the car. interference with other cars was also a thing and of course it will also goes fullhtrottle then ;) i also replaced the black plastic piece under the rear motor with an aluminium plate and drilled holes in it. looked cool and safed the screw hole from the transmission while doing wheelies.

Wow brings back a lot of memories I was a blast building your own Rc back in the day well at least I loved it. Because you can always change things to the way you wanted and when you were done if you had any problems on the track like a crazy crash you new how to fix it already and what you needed to upgrade. I built a Tamaya Subaru bratt. A grass hopper. A big brute. By kyosho. And a pice of crap traxxes nite hawk some rc 10 stadium truck wow didn’t realize how much of a great child hood I had of course had to save my own money for them

So, not sure why this popped up on my YT feed...maybe because the algorithms know I love Bugs lol.....but so glad it did. At the start I thought ‘wow this guy is meticulous- rarely do I see anyone use a set of VCs to check pin sizes from a factory kit’......by the end of the video I’m like ‘this must be how God operates’ ....🤯🤯🤯🤯 Your aunt would not only be pleased, if she’s the sort of petrol head you make out, she’d want a go on it hahaha....not sure if it’s too late, but if not, maybe you can add a decal with your aunt’s name on it and stick to the roof of the driver’s door or window just behind the driver like most race cars have....either way a fitting tribute....this entire video, and your description has just gained you a new subscriber 👍...but more than that, your memories of your Aunt and her Bug, reminds me of my own Father....he owned a Bug and like you’re Aunt and as a young child I remember being driven around in that. I learnt my first swear word in that car because of my Father swearing at another driver who had cut him up, coming off the motor way he would always slow down get me to stand up on the rear passenger seat whilst he pointed out the RC track on the side and show guys and girls racing RC cars (42yrs later and I’m a member of that very club)....I used to help him wash the car...as I was only very young I could only reach the hub caps and at most the door sills.....I’d watch Herbie Goes Bananas and look out at the driveway and see the Beetle parked there and think my Father owned Herbie!! .....as you can imagine I loved that car as a kid and have loved Bugs ever since.....so from someone who doesn’t have your talent but has had very similar fun experiences back in the day, I can’t thank you enough for doing such a exquisite job on this Bug. 🙏😎

Thank you for watching and the kind words! I really like the idea of adding her name (as the driver) and I will try to get to it at some point. She was quite a petrol head. Thanks for the suggestion! And thanks for sharing your memories! The part about you thinking your Father owned Herbie made me laugh! Yes, it's those memories that we treasure. I learned from my aunt to jump the gun and not hesitate on a street race, quite a hooligan. Haha!

Hi Miguel. Thank you and thanks for watching! Will do. I will definitely run it and do a video because I also want to see how it goes :). Just haven’t had a chance to because it’s been snowing or raining on the days when I have time to take it out. But one day I will upload a clip.
