Im an aircraft engineer and the skin on the frame provides a lot of the strength. You need a test of an assembled component for a good result.

Great video again. I was keeping an eye out for our van at the same time as we received ours in December with the new extreme chassis. Love your honesty and what you do for the brand and love watching you both. I think your new purchase is a 60 series landcruiser. We also Love our new van.

Great episode! 💯 Yep, Urban Caravans are the best there is according to our research. We started looking for our van 4 years ago, Urban Caravans was the second van we looked at, and we measured all other vans against them. Nothing came close on build, quality or price. The aluminium tig-welded build and in-house built cabinetry can't be beaten. Now, the in-house chassis builds really take everything to the next level.

I agree in tig welded frames but from an engineering perspective your strength test is ridiculous as the two frames are not made from the same size materials. The frames should be identical with only the joins different, ie welded vs riveted.

Unfortunately that’s not an accurate test, we have taken what urban use and what other used.. no point using materials companies don’t use what’s the point of that.

Great video of your new van. Our van was built just after yours and picked it up a couple of days before Christmas. We are so rapt❤👍 Pretty sure it's an Old FJ40. Would love a set of tyre deflaters. We use the icheck pressure monitor and love it.

You’re right that buying a van is a lot to decide about. Everyone on KZfaq quotes there van is the best ADU just vanning it , traveling campers. I guess it’s what you think suits you personally. Happy travels

The word best means it’s above the rest, easy to say, hard to prove and these days the word “best” is thrown around like chicken feed. I agree 100%, everyone needs are totally different and it comes down to taste, budget, tow vehicle, research and several other factors!! Those KZfaq channels are all awesome, awesome people and they all do amazing videos and I’ve spent time with them all! All very talented people! I’ll never ever criticise someone on what they have or don’t have (Corolla or 300 series is all the same to me) but when I use words I hold myself fully accountable for them and either back them up with proof or experience that’s the point of this video.

Hi guys we are relatively new to caravans and own an Urban x-tree and are towing with a 200 series Sahara like you. Any tips to stop the van moving around while driving, my husband runs the airbags at around 50psi but still seems to move a lot while driving. Any help would be appreciated as we are now planning on going to Birdsville and then the cape after seeing your show. I think your new vehicle will be a 300 series Sahara Keep the shows coming I’m addicted now 😊

Wow, that is one BIG (high) van! That will restrict where you can take it, but I guess you've probably done all the tight to get to places with Percy and Keith. Good to see you're staying with Urban and love watching the build process. For the new (old) car I reckon its Toyota LC - FJ40 or 45. Seems to be the thing at the moment to do up the old Landcruisers and bring them back to life. Are you guys still at home, or are you back on the road? Must have been wonderful to go home and see your friends and family again. All the best, Kerryn

its on airbags so can lower it 100+ mm with a touch of a button so it won't be an issue! its pretty well the same height as the old van! thanks for the comment kerryn and the support!

hi Keelan. Just wondering if you have your batteries in the van in series or parallel? You mentioned on an earlier video that you wanted higher voltage solar panels, so have you managed that as well? I am assuming you would prefer the higher battery(assuming parallel) and solar voltages to allow lower currents to power the 3000W inverter, but please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

Looks the goods and far out its tall (might need to nickname it Tall Timmy). I'm am going to say the new car is a Black 300 series Landcruiser GX (as this is the only one under 2.5T and it may be the one at the front of the Urban Caravans workshop) but It may also be a new 70 Series as these are all under 2.5T. The reason for sticking with a Toyota is the same as why you are sticking with Urban Caravans, because they work. 😛

Your test showed a difference in caravan construction methods not weight capabilities per se. Modern aircraft are still built using rivets for a reason. Anyway still a nice van that I would like to own. Reckon you’ve bought Percy-the-Prado back ! Cheers

Although I appreciate your opinion and comment I don’t agree. I showed the static weight capacity of both methods, caravans and planes are very different applications! Even though we have had our urban airborne I don’t suggest strapping wings to a caravan and sending it to the sky and I definitely don’t suggest swapping the landing gear out on a boeing for a set independent trailing arms and taking it offroad to remote Australia.
