It's Wifey Wednesday! Time to do some work on the Renault/VW Beetle project. In this round, the wife comes for an imaginary test drive. Apart from thinking the steering wheel is too big, she wants to know why there is no speedometer, how can she see how fast she is going down the highway? So, I build a custom instrument cluster with old Beetle parts.

I always love and anticipate Wife-Wednesday and watching you build the Wife Rod. I don't have a wife to please, so I practice building stuff for my mother. I am sitting down relaxing watching Div do his magic after having laid tiles in moms kitchen.

Hey Div, What a pleasant surprise to see the misses sitting in the Renobug. The lead in to building the mount for the speedo was great. The design for the gauge surround is magnificent, I like it. I hope you will spray it with clear coat to preserve the finish left by the DA. Take Care and enjoy supper.

Your Bug reminded me of a funny story from my youth. A friend of mine drove a Fiat 600 which he loved, it had an engine from an 850 and a sunroof, it went like a bomb. He went to a disco, met a bird and offered her a lift home. She asked what kind of car do you have. He replied, "a small Italian Convertible sports car. She agreed to let him take her home. They went to the car park together but when she saw the car she said, "I'm not sittin in a little fart of a car like that", while walking away. He never saw her again, it wouldnt have worked out anyway. Congratulations on what is obviously a long and happy marriage.😊

Nice tidy work on that speedo installation in the wifey's "shopping trolley" Div. You're sure building up lots of "attaboys", (successful endeavors). You must always avoid the "awshits", (failures), especially when working for "the real boss".

I really like the way he cut out the bug's speedo bezel to transplant into the Renobug. Steel sidecovers on Barefoot Mechanic's bike got me thinking I could do the same. And the bolt-on speedo mount is *exquisitely* dieselpunk⚙ You can't have too much burned steel!

I love the instrument cluster you did an awesome job. I’m not a great welder, but I’m a good grinder and I love the flapping disc for my grinder. I love fabrication and painting so your channel is awesome. You have to put a beautiful paint job on your wife’s car though, or just a single stage, Acrylic enamel with a harder additive nothing too expensive because it’s probably gonna get chipped up and it’s a daily driver . Silver, yellow, or white paint color? Flat black rattle can for the dashboard, reduces glare maybe Lexan front windshield if you can’t find Glass.

When you first held the speedo in place I envisioned what might work to mount it. Then you built something that far exceeded my vision LOL. All I can say is wow, that is some fantastic fabrication, it came out great and looks like it belongs there.

Great job with the speedo. These days that is known as a pod, not a pimple, and quite popular in the racing fraternity. I'm sure that it would make the renobug go a bit faster.

Wonder if you should splurge and find a tilt/telescopic column for comfort for you both? Also, you wife mane needs to sit a few inches higher in the car. That way her arm will sit nice on the window ledge. Maybe a height adjustable seat? Happy wife, happy life! Me and my Mrs have just pasted the 37 year mark. She is a keeper! Live the speedo housing! Did I miss #8? We got 7 with the steering, and 9 with the speedo. I don't want to be left out of #8!!!! Anyway, nice job on the speedo. That vw has seen some better days with all the rust! Glad you can reuse bits!
