This is an interesting video. I can see this being a good way to refresh old drills with bad NiCd packs which are no longer available. There'd need to be some kind of different BMS included in those cells, however.

At our local Home Depot in Canada we are getting bent over by the price of power tool batteries. A Dewalt 5Ah like you are holding in your hand 10:02 is $199 before the taxes. So that makes it worth it for us to build our own.

That’s really unfortunate! I mis-spoke and our packs here are 60-70 but that’s still not bad for what it is here.

Just built a 6Ah with same kit, the DeWalt has no BMS inside the battery pack like Makita, the BMS is in the charger. This kit goes together very well with wire channels not shown in video. A bit more challenging than a Makita pack but very doable.

The top notch spot welder (imho) is the kweld. It's about $500 total between the power supply, kcaps, etc. but it is a worth while investment because it has the power to handle longer sessions and it's built to handle some of the thicker strips.

At that price you might as well build one from a microwave transformer. I have one of those cheap Chinese mini spot welders that runs off a battery and it works good, no problems yet on 0.015 thick nickel strips. I did mod it with a capacitor to keep the voltage from dropping.
