The healthiest thing you can do for a pond that doesn’t have a steady flow of water is to add a fountain/bubbler
@deantaylor3786
@deantaylor3786 4 жыл бұрын
This is really the biggest thing you could do. Would be ideal to maybe set up a solar powered fountain/bubbler so you don't have to power it from the cabin.

I was thinking having a pond pump placed into the middle of the pond, then have it pumped through a wetland filter of sort, like a large container full of gravel so the gravel catches all the debris floating in the water which would make the pond water clear meaning you could see the fish and also the gravel would support a ton of beneficial bacteria further improving the water clarity and water quality.

If you want to see how many turtles are in Any pond you take a floating type log or plank, preferably something that will be flat-ish ( like a log cut in half or maybe just one third of it with the bark side floating upward) so the turtles can climb up on it. Then attach it to a galvanized chain (or any chain or nylon rope that you think will last submerged in the water for a while). You then attach the other end to a cement block or something that's going to sink and stay in place in the center of the pond. Use enough length so that the floating log doesn't get pulled under the water, yet not too much length that it doesn't float over to the sides of the pond, because If the log stays roughly in the center of the pond the turtles will see it as a safe spot to come out and sunbathe, which is the second favorite thing to do, right next to eating things like leeches, and other things they think are tasty. I did this at a pond where they didn't think they had much Aquatic Life... next thing you know there were dozens of turtles on the long plank and then came in the otters and then you could watch the otters catching crayfish from the bottom...etc.

Pond restoration seems to be going well. I say you get a Christmas tree for this winter at Camp Claw then once Christmas is over go chunk it in the pond! Would give you some variety in what the fish can hang out around!!

Jon, you need to cut down a couple cedar trees and affix cinder blocks to it to sink. Then you shove it onto the ice in late winter and let it sink where you want it. Cedar takes the longest to decay. That birch will only last like 2 years before it's total gone. You should get in contact with Amie Lavonn Robison. She does pond management professionally and can give you the best advice.

The best crappie structure I’ve fished on was some pvc contraption my friend’s dad made. He found a video on KZfaq for it. Basically you put it together, sink it somehow (I think the used tied down gym weights), and then stick bamboo shoots around the the open spots. Everyone on the club lake was coming to their dock cause we were pulling 40-70 out a day.
