Building My BAGGED AND BODY DROPPED 1960 BMW 700 Coupe (in 20 minutes)

I finally put together all of the footage and photos of when my father and I resurrected, modified, and built my German-market 1960 BMW 700 Sport Coupe.
After being imported to America, it sat for decades rotting away in the woods of northern NH. Here is the full story of our process of extricating it from its grave in the woods, to giving it a new lease on life with a larger heartbeat, and putting it back on the road again in a way no other BMW 700 has.

John you did a fantastic job on this video! I really enjoyed the story and can relate to it a lot. I loved restoring my squareback at 15 with my father and learning what I know today about body work. Nine years later, today we separated the body from the floor pan on my 66 first year Fastback. More knowledge, resources and information will make this restoration even better, but the help from my father is priceless!

This is some quality content. Great overview of the build. Cars like these make me envy you lot in the US. Chassis swapping and stuff like that will never pass inspection here in Europe. Looking forward for more content like this.
@JohnLudwick
@JohnLudwick 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yes, even in some states here in the US it is hard to register cars that have been swapped like this as well. But Europe, the UK, and Australia are countries I've spent time in and realized just how bad it is to modify your car in almost any way there.

Firstly, never knew BMW made such a car. Secondly, only because of you I now know such a car exists, although in very limited numbers I presume. Thirdly, because of you I now appreciate this model more, because of how unique it is, and how unique you made it. Saw a few photos on BaT's Instagram of a pristine BMW 700 a while back, located in California most likely, and it didn't really make me feel what I feel when I see yours. I still appreciate it as a car, but not as much as I appreciate yours. Also, I'd love to see if I could fit comfortably in such a car, me being 1.85 metres long haha.

Thank you so much, Sebastian! It means a lot to me! The car really is so so small haha. And I agree, seeing a stock one doesn't quite have the presence that this one does now haha

There’s nothing left Bmw 700 wise. Owing a 700 sport and seeing one hacked up just for stance is blah. We all have our liking. Cool story behind it though and working with your father. I would have built a 50hp sport engine and put the rare koni suspension set up using mini light wheels.
@JohnLudwick
@JohnLudwick 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you watched the entire video or not, but there was literally nothing left to the underside or structure of the car; nothing. We had to strap the body together because it was falling apart when we tried to move it. It was not even a car anymore. Putting it down over a chassis was the only way that car would ever see the road again. So in my opinion, it's not really "hacked up just for stance", it was "repurposed to live again". We wouldn't have hacked up a solid, restorable 700 haha

John, do you have any of the original suspension parts from the 700? I just bought a BMW 600 body shell and will have to build a new frame for it. Anything you still have would be a great help in getting my car on the road again. Thanks
