Wow! I love how shiny you got the brass. This looks like something a victorian king of england would play chess on 🤯

This is amazing! Your project storyline is good and I love your calm story telling voice throughout😊. I am not even interested in woodworking but I found your video and how to very interesting. You have learned so much!! Great work❤

Hi from Ireland. Well done young man. The future of Woodcraft is safe. Just a pointer, you should remove the bracelet whilst using machinery. Best of luck to you and love the channel.

Great video and amazing board! However there's 2 details I think you missed that may keep a serious chess player from buying your board. First off is that a regulation chessboard has 2" squares. For most players, this doesn't matter and even tournament players don't always use regulation boards. The 2nd detail is probably the most problematic, and that's your drawer not being segmented to prevent pieces from rolling around and into each other. A nice board like that deserves nice pieces, but those pieces will get dinged or otherwise damaged if they aren't separated while moving the board from storage to tabletop or while traveling. And detail 2.5 is that those compartments need to be padded with something like felt, fleece, or other soft and thick fabric, so they don't get damaged by the box itself. I realize that 2" squares will make the board larger than your planer, so I definitely understand why you didn't make them that large, and making 32 compartments for the pieces takes a while, so I understand why you didn't do that, too. All in all, you did a great job and I look forward to your future projects! I make chessboard, too. I haven't posted most of them on my Etsy store, so watching your video has lit a fire under me to get things moving.

Love the detailed comment, and these are actually all items I had considered, but chose to omit for this board in particular. For one, I was making this board for my cousin, who is not a serious chess player, and knew he probably wouldn't want a board that was too large to put on a coffee table, for example. And two, I had considered doing felt/batting in the drawer, but he said he'd prefer it without. Another factor for not doing the segmented drawer spaces is that I didn't include pieces, so I wouldn't want the pieces he chose to be too large for the segments. I think when I finish up the next board, I would like to work with someone with a lathe to make some chess pieces, which I can then reference for the drawer segment sizes and be able to sell the board as a complete package. Anyways, I'm happy I could motivate you in your craft/business! That was definitely the over-arching theme here and I love you were able to have a positive takeaway from the video!

@@DeAngelisWoodcraft have you considered 3D printing chess pieces? I use four resin 3D printers to make some amazing pieces, which I also haven't posted for sale, unfortunately. If you wanted larger segments, you can make the drawer deeper and have a tray for a 2nd layer, keeping the colors separated, too. You can also make the segments not 90 degrees, so the bases can fit into a larger based trapezoid, and alternating the direction the pieces fit. And yeah, doing pieces on a lathe is a pretty good idea, except for the knight. Unfortunately that takes extra work, but done correctly is a really nice piece.

I have an extrusion 3D printer, but I wouldn’t want to make my pieces that way. I think it would throw off the whole theme and style of the piece
