Don't worry too much about the board, Mayuko-san! The board is a very simple 1 layer PCB with no super sensitive components. For inserting the switches right, you need to make sure the golden pins are perfectly straight so it goes in without bending. Do it gently, and straight down. You'll get the hang of it eventually, and fixing the pins with tweezers is very easy. For next time you try this, or do an upgrade to the FB60, you can buy some Everglide Aqua King V3 (linear), or the Gazzew Boba U4T. Both of these switches are great stock, with light lube on the Boba and a ton of factory lube on the Aqua King. You can dip the stabilizers in some dielectric grease, or just ask KFA to send you some lubing supplies (donno why they didn't do this).

"Huhuuu silicone dampener for the thocciness" Me: One of us! One of us! One of us! Welcome to the custom mech keebs community! Don't feel discouraged by messing up, everyone does. I spent 5 hours soldering, desoldering, and soldering again on my first keyboard because I messed up so bad and to make it worse, I did it on stream 😬 lol. If you want a smoother and thoccier feel, lubing the milky yellows with some switch lube will definitely help (also there are lubing services on a bunch of keeb sites so you don't have to do it yourself lol).

Custom mechs are expensive but so fun, especially now that soldering is optional. If you go one level deeper start with stabilizer mods! Biggest difference by far. Look up Taeha's KZfaq video on it, it's easier than it seems 😄

This is an awesome video! It felt nice watching it because it reminded me so much of when I got into the hobby. I'm several keebs in at this point, and I love how the keyboard is like a piece of self expression on a desk. Almost like a modular work of art that changes over time. The point you made with Keebs essentially being utilitarian Gundams really resonated with me, but it also reminded me of a quote by the creator of the Original HHKB: “Cowboys in the western United States leave their horses when they die. But never leave their saddles, regardless of how long they need to walk in the desert. Saddles are interfaces that are deeply adapted to our bodies whereas horses are consumable items. It should not be forgotten that computers are consumables nowadays, but keyboards are interfaces that we can use through our lives.” Yes, a keyboard is a keyboard...but when you build it, customize it, and get to know it really well...it becomes your keyboard.

I'm definitely living vicariously through you on this one, I love keyboards despite having no serious experience with them, but I really enjoy your keyboard reviews and this video! It was fun, and now I might try making my own keyboard since there are options with no soldering (aka burning my house down) involved. XD

Don't worry, as someone who built two keyboards so far I found it comforting to see that I'm not the only one making those mistakes 😊 Two tips for you for next time that could help you from what I learned: 1. Before you do anything with the PCB, plug it into your PC and bend a paperclip and then short each key on the PCB using both ends of the paperclip (don't worry, you're just doing "manually" what a switch would do) a lot of PCB manufacturers include a paper mentioning to do this. On my second keyboard I noticed this way they forgot to put a component on the PCB from the factory, and if you would only notice this at the end it would be very frustrating since you would need to remove everything again to send the PCB back (and it could save you hours trying to troubleshoot why the key isn't working). 2. Even though it may seem a bit "extra" for a first build I would definitely recommend lubing the stabilizers, since it makes such a big difference to making the keyboard a lot quieter, especially given if you want to do it later you need to remove everything again. Also I would install the switches which are stabilized first and then already install the keycaps first and check if you like the sound or not, so it will be easier to remove the stabilizers in case you need to lube or the stabilizer turns out to be broken, which I also experienced (the stabilizer would stay down when I pressed the space bar, so I had to replace it which was very annoying with all of the switches and keycaps already in place. Hope that helps, and definitely making a lot of mistakes is the best way to learn in my experience!

I think you did a pretty great job. The willingness to try and experiment, and to make mistakes is somewhat kinda part of the hobby's foundations cause a lot of what makes it what it is, is trying new things and seeing what works and what creates a good product. Hopefully you enjoy typing on your finished keyb, and eventually get curious enough to try out new things!

I am a long time view of your channel and one that has fallen down the rabbit hole of mechanical keyboards. There is one thing I do suggest and that is lubing your stabilizers because that part alone is why custom builds sound so much better than off the shelf boards. But what do I know take that with a grain of salt because at the end of the day this expensive hobby is all preference.

I agree, failure is a great way to learn (for me at least). Another thing I find that is helpful to learn is when you are learning something, physically saying or writing the process helps cement it into your brain. That's why if I am teaching someone something, I will ask them to "teach" me what I've taught them.

Just a lil tip for next time (if there is a next time) : You should try and test your pcb with tweezers first before doing anything, this will let you know if you have a faulty pcb before you go and install everything and have to figure out where the problem is. Running off of this is to test your keys immediately after you've installed the switches so you don't have to take everything apart to inspect for bent pins!

This is actually funny. What you'll learn quick is that relatively well-reviewed and popular electronic components are surprisingly durable (unless it's much smaller parts). When I first started building PCs/Keyboards I was surprised nothing snapped or broke because I didn't know what I was doing. The worst thing that will usually happen is stripping screws. I would also recommend knowing how to un-build something after you've built it, you'll thank yourself later.

It may seem daunting but it’s not too hard after a few tries if you want to continue the hobby. You just have to find a sweet spot for how much lube you need to use. I’d recommend watching Taeha Types’ video since it’s really well made.
