Wow, good job! Gosh you really manage to stick through it, and see a project through to the end, I’m impressed! At 8:24 - no, it’s not wrong to screw the two pieces together, it’s much better than nailing. However, you pre-drill to stop your wood from cracking, and still glue first. You would use a drill bit a bit smaller in diameter than your screw.

For a first frame I think it's so well done! But yeah, ideally it would be foldable haha. If the base turns out to not be stable enough you can try to put the connecting pieces in diagonally, so you form a triangle. Excited to see you getting started on this piece!!

Thanks!! I'm glad I made the frame itself as a whole separate piece, because if the stand breaks or just turns out to not work as well, I can easily make a new one (maybe even a foldable one!) and still just chunk the frame on top!

This is awesome - thanks for posting, I do tambour embroidery so need the fabric really taut, and this has given me some really nice ideas of how to make a frame with simple hand tools.

First time watcher I'm going to say HUGE KUDOS! I myself am going through a very similar dilemma. I have a ginormous project that I'm super excited to attempt 😆 However I'm terrified of puckering and much like your criteria of a frame I'm realizing that I do not want to opt your standard hoop. Great job on making the frame and your associate because I will be doing said task on my own. Crafts are and can be costly, I have the patience of starving newborn and if I'm not working on something constantly I'll lose my mind. Again Great job and you have a new follower because I know now I'm not the only one that loves a challenge. Cheers!

Hello and welcome!! A ginormous and challenging project is the best kind, and I'm absolutely sure you'll be able to achieve the perfect frame for your upcoming project! Go forth and make stuff!

Just a tip for screwing narrow wood to avoid splitting pre-drill holes where you want the screw to go with a drill bit slightly narrower than the screw also pick a small gauge or thin screw like a long thread hinge screw and if the screws have a counter sunk head makes sure when pre drilling counter sink it too otherwise the head of the screw will split the wood, you can use a larger drill bit about the same width as the screw head to counter sink it instead of buying counter sinking bits ( if you don't know what counter sinking is a quick google search should give you an idea) hopefully this helps improve your wood working

I have used large frames from the thrift store to stretch embroidery projects. Hoops are too damaging. Never made a stand for them, but it would prolly work fine. My current project justs gets propped against adjacent furniture. Makes me wonder if I can find a 36" wooden table to convert to an embroidery table. I have a 30" antique card table with folding legs... but antiquely too beautiful to cut up! I have a jinky metal folding table too, it might not be sturdy enough. You got me thinking.

Another option is to use a quilting hoop as they are larger than a embroidery hoop😹😹 Like you when it comes to embroidery frames I have made my own as well. I am looking at building my own quilting frame for the quilt top Mom made me before she passed away, 11 years ago using all my favourite colours. This is a challenge as all the layers start out on their own rod and then fed onto one rod which turns as do all three top layer rods do as well.🙈I just can not afford to buy this type of setup as it’s almost $6000 AUS to buy😿😿 which is okay really as I do have almost 15 finished queen sized quilt tops that need to be quilted🙀🙀(did I mention I have way to many hobbies😹😹😹😹) the biggest issue is it has to be wider than the bed is 😹😹😹well they did say life was never meant to be easy breezy 😹😹😹
