The CCTV Headquarters in Beijing designed by OMA is an alternative to the exhausted typology of the skyscraper. Conceived as a loop with a 75-metre cantilever, the building offers a three-dimensional experience. Visible from most of Beijing, the building has been a landmark of the city since its completion in 2012. In this lecture, OMA’s Managing Partner - Architect David Gianotten will explain the relationship between the architectural form of the building and CCTV’s unique program of TV-making.
He will discuss the building’s innovative structure, and how the self-supporting hybrid façade is a visual manifestation of it. The lecture will highlight that despite the CCTV Headquarters distinctive form, the architecture is contextual and relevant to the city. David will also relate the CCTV Headquarters to OMA’s wider portfolio of work, and share thoughts about what makes a design innovative and contextual.
