One of the reasons I love your channel is that you are very inclusive of your kids in the build, you are teaching them some real life values, more than they'd ever learn at school. When they're grown up & ready to leave house, they will have the skills & knowledge to survive

Martin please put up a temporary hand rail on your stairs to the apartment. Every time you guys up the stairs with snow and ice. I’m stressed that someone will fall. Something is better than hitting the cold ground.

You should build a roof over the steps going up to the living area. This will keep the snow off the steps and keep the snow from falling on them and you from the roof above. .

Mouse problem? peppermint oil and cotton balls works great, also 40 drops in 32 ounces of water spray bottle,I use it in my car and trucks under hood and sprayed it pretty literally in my house and shop it works great for some reason they don't like it,I'm up to three pushups!

You could use metal to match your roof to build a cover over the stairs from the ground to the top in preference to modifying the roof.

YOU all have LOT"S of experience NOW. I remember in the beginning when you were totally "green" on building anything. I remember when you said I am learning online and "I HAVE THESE BOOKS" which you held up. That cracked me up and that memory is still with me today LOLOL. But YOU know what??? YOU are not GREEN anymore you are a CRAFTSMAN for sure...I mean Look at what you have ALL accomplished here. I remember the tent's you all roughed it through to live in during a cold winter for sure. Totally amazing and God IS Blessing you all...don't forget his own son at one time was a carpenter with his earthly dad Joseph.

Every time I see it I wonder why those stairs have to be on the outside in a place where there is ice and snow for months? Make a stairwell over it, you won't regret it!

Keep Smiling 🙂 Congratulations on finishing the insulation. On to drywall. Couple tips.. If you are looking for drywall tips . Vancouver Carpenter is excellent Vlog. Also staggering your drywall like you do your plywood sheathing. And leave a 1/2 “ small gap between the floor and bottom of drywall panel is best practice to prevent moisture wicking. Less is more when mudding. How is that for unsolicited advice. Our church has a cultural practice of ARP “advice requires permission” but you usually ask for ideas anyway. Blessings stay warm!

Great to see you take a little time for play. You have so much to do with building, filming and editing. I'm 72 and very active, (friends say neurotically so) but I don't do exercise so this pushup challenge will be tough. I watched the two days at once so three for the first day. No way I will make the 31 without touching my knees to the floor. Thanks for the challenge.

I'm loving this 1 video a day. This is actually a LOT of fun! Thank you, guys! I do have a question: What size is your electrical system? How many watts of power does the solar produce on average? During the winter I see you run the generator to 99 + 15 min, but how much are you actually using? I see lights, laptops, cameras, power tools, etc. How much capacity do you have, and have you run out before? Thanks, guys! You are all so inspiring to me and my family. Have you thought of extending the roof over the stairway. Rain is one thing. Snow sliding off and on to someone’s head especially if deep could cause an injury. Alan

What about a roof over the staircase to protect from snow/ice/and rain? That way, no one would get hurt from slide off or ice on the stairs.

I hope you guys are planning on adding some blown-in insulation above there or some more batts above their running the other direction because R30 in your climate seems to be way under on the R value! I would think you should have a minimum of R 48. Cheers

I think it’s about time to put a roof over the stairway leading up do the upstairs apartment to eliminate Snow and the icy stairway.

Just a suggestion, It seems like it would be a good idea to put an access door (insulated of course) next to the furnace so that it can be serviced or replaced if needed; without having to remove and refinish sheetrock later down the road.

The actual r value is about half of that printed on the insulation, there is a lot of thermal bridging, studs, plates etc,

Question: Attic ladder for furnace maintenance? It needed to be pulled every 5 or so years. I had the A/C heater air handler in the attic so I created a slide-bolted panel, only opened from the inside to have installed/remove etc.

When you insulate the bathroom ceiling, PUT UP A VAPOR BARRIER. It will save you from a lot of grief later. Actually, I would advise vapor barriers on all your ceilings.
