English subtitles are available. This is a complete build of Tamiya M4A3E8 Sherman. This is also a diorama of the Korean War called "The Forgotten War". Enjoy.

That was great timing on your behalf, you posted it just as I was sitting down to enjoy my dinner, after work. Another great video, it is a nice kit and you made it all to a very nice diorama / vignette, with the added figures at prayer. Fitting music as well.. so yes, very good, all in all.. I may have to get this kit, but I do have a Tamiya 'Easy Eight' in 1/48 scale to build and have already built the HobbyBoss 1/48 Easy Eight as a Korean War version. I don't know if the tiger faces scared the Chinese and North Koreans, or not, but it sure makes for a very interesting tank model to build.. :) Thanks for sharing your build. :)

That's a pretty nice model! I need to build my own. But i got about 60 untuilt kits in my collection 🙈 a lot of work to do although i am sure i'd love another Sherman model. Also my uncle was a bomber radio operator during this war so it kinda feels nostalgic

A really nice build, and a nice diorama! I don't know about whether painting the front of tanks scared any Chinese, or not, but my father told me a somewhat similar story from his service in WWII....My dad was in an armored anti-aircraft unit on its way to the bridge at Remagen, Germany , in March, 1945. By this late point in the war, the Germans were desperate to keep the Allies from invading. My dad told me that the Germans, knowing about the popularity in the U.S. of horror movies, thought that the GI's were afraid of monsters, so they hung pictures and movie posters of the Wolfman, with the words, "Beware - werewolves," from trees at the edges of forests (thinking this would scare the GI's,) and keep them from going any further into Germany. It didn't work...My dad said he and his buddies almost died laughing! So, I wonder if "Tiger faces" painted on tanks might have had a similar effect on the Chinese soldiers in Korea. That "Beware - werewolves" story might make an interesting diorama for an accomplihed modeler......(hint, hint)
@qdc748a2 жыл бұрын
That's funny about your father's story. This is the first time I heard a story like that. As for the tiger's faces, I personally think it didn't work. I can't imagine an officer would tell soldiers to run away because they are seeing tanks painted with tiger's faces. Thanks for watching. 😃😃

The 89th tank battalion were one of the major units that actually did such large motifs on their vehicle, like the Devil motif you have built, hence "rice's red devils" Other units opted for the tiger motif which actually painted the entire forward parts of the tank yellow with stripes, not just the front plate. Sources vary on if this actually worked as it is hard to tell if enemy soldiers ran away due to the way they painted their tanks or the fact that it was a tank.

Very nice video. Tamiya truly is the masters of plastic. Their engineering is second to none. Easy to build kit's which display nicely when finished. I have two Uncle's who fought in Korea. One is still living, I'm thankful for his and my Aunt's service.. Great build Qdc. I built a Sherman recently with a battle of the Bulge white wash. Hey Buster, nice 🐈. Good video!!! Am building this same tank as well. Father Kaupan was born in Pilsen, KS, about a 45 mile or so drive from where I live in Kansas. Few weeks ago, I was down by Marion Lake Reservoir when I decided to take a different route home. Route I had taken brought me through Pilsen, KS - very tiny town. Saw a sign in front of a house that said "Father Kaupan's Boyhood Home" or words similar. Jammed on the brakes and backed up to get a better look. Also, there is a church in town where he preached and a small museum next door. The museum was closed day of my visit. Plus, there was a nice statue of him and a historical plaque in his honor. Also, on Fort Riley, there is a chapel named in his honor as well. The things that can be discovered while just aimlessly driving around the backroads of the countryside.

Thank you so much for this information! I found an official website for Emil Kapaun frkapaun.org/ He is famous and you should check out the website. According to the website, he is buried in a church in Wichita, KS. Wow. Since you are in the area, you should visit both his museum and his tomb. It's so nice to know there's so much things for him. Take care. 😃😃

I'd have thought that to a Chinese soldier this is a tank with a painting on it. Not a tiger's face. More Likely the tank would scare them than the 'tiger' painted on it. But! Fantastic work as always and a very good diorama.

Lovely video again, Q! It's always as great a pleasure to watch you as watching plasmo or Night Shift! If I want to share my current project with you, is there a place where i can do such? Facebook maybe? Edit: a tip would be for your dioramas to cut away as much foam with a knife as possible, as all the small microplastic particles that you create using a drill are 1)hard to clean, 2) fly everywhere and 3) are probably not good for your health! ;)

Great build and diorama! Quick question: why was there a GAZ scout car included in this kit? I know that the Chinese were combatants in the war, and I know it was a proxy war in the greater Cold War, but I wasn't aware that the Soviets were also direct combatants. I guess I don't know much about the Korean War.
@qdc748a2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryne. I don't know why Tamiya included the scout car with this kit. I suspect it was part of a marketing plan to attract more buyers. The Korean War was a very complicated war and technically they are still at war. I don't know much of this complicated history so I can't help you. Take care.
@subliminalstyrene8112 жыл бұрын
The kit includes a Soviet Gaz because the Soviets either sold or donated vehicles and weapons to the North Koreans just the same as the US gave tanks and equipment to the Soviets during WWII. The North Koreans were (and still are) Communists the same as the Soviets used to be.

Giant megafauna cats were once common on the Korean Peninsula up to the war. Unfortunately, they were wiped out as collateral damage during the War. Some say that was the catalyst for the truce. This story was covered up by the CIA and the government.
