As you say this looks a superb kit, so I'll have to get one. The fit of the parts is amazing. I think the Spitfire is a good model to do an open canopy because it also has a small door on the left fuselage side so a lot of the cockpit detail should be visible. It would be great if someone did a resin engine kit for it too.

Just Amazing. I was going to pick one of these up but went with a few different models instead. Right now I just started a Tamiya Mitsubishi Zero Zeke. Kind of glad I didn't this seems way more advanced than the one I'm working on...fit and finish may be better but there seems to be steps for the much advanced builders. I have limited experience with only building pretty basic Gundam models as a kid. These models are on another level! I'm not trying to put my heart and soul in to this first one knowing I'll only be let down because this is obviously something that comes with time and practice. So I'm just using brushes with enamel paint. Half-assing the paint....it's already somewhat overwhelming so I don't want to get discouraged going crazy over the exact correct paint colors.... I want to just enjoy building and finishing it whether or not it looks half-assed lol TL;DR 1. How in the world does one paint such fine details on a figure? 2. What is this metallic powder called? I can't seem to find it on ebay. 3. How does one make the plastic look like glass? Regular clear coat? 4. Are decal solutions really necessary? if so should I get the micro set and sol or tamiya's mark fit? Thank you!

Great friendly video again Andy. Love your show here in the U.K,home of the Spit. Saw 10+ flying at the Duxford airshow recently.WOW,WOW and WOW!!! Even the movies cant emulate that Merlin growl and definately not the slipstream!!Great model work from you again Andy. Nice to see the gently weathering and not that 'statue@ finish some have when overdone. They were new once so nice to have a cleaner look too. What is it about the MK.1a. Im sure its not just my favourite. Got some V,s and a Mk.Xii by Airfix as they really have upped their game with the post 2009 New Tooling. This Tamiya has got somegreat moulding designs.It was refreshing after a nightmare build of an ICM Mk.iX. Their plastic is so soft and though copius amounts of detail,nothing goes together when build the engines and gun bays etc. Very refreshing watching you build this one after ive had to force myself to finish the ICM kit. Mr.Johnnie Johnson would have had something to say!!!! Keep up the good work Andy!

Hi Andy, I'm only just rejoining the modeling ranks as a novice despite my age and so I am catching up with the experts videos. I have this kit but since I am trying to bring an airfix "Spit" that I ruined to some degree of splendour, I won't touch the Tamiya until I'm more confident. However regarding your thoughts on the camouflage detailing, the British Air Ministry code 1939 - 45 stated that the edges should merge and not form a rigid line. So you you were quite right to do it "your way". Fantastic result, sir.
@alanmorris8783

This is the sort of quality that we should be expecting from Airfix .... it’s a shame they don’t set the bar quite high enough. Shows you don’t need reams of plastic and resin. Lovely work and nice and accurate. Price seems a little high, but I suppose that the photo-etch and extras make it more than worthwhile.

The way the RAF painted the camouflage on their aircraft was by laying large soft rubber matting on the aircraft in the shape of the camouflage patterns. It gave fairly crisp lines and it was easy to do. Masking them off with paper and tape wouldn’t have been feasible, large rubber matting worked just fine and the matting was just pulled off the airplane when the painting was done. I saw a photograph of brand new Mosquitos lined up and the camouflage pattern was exactly the same on every one of them. As for you just getting really fine lines with your airbrush, it looks terrific just like everything else you do so masking it off wasn’t necessary.

@@brucerobinson7295 It's an old joke on Hyperscale. The fit looks so good and automatic it takes no modeling skill to get a perfect wing root join. Thus, it's killing the hobby, so easy a caveman could do it. It started, I believe when Mike Grant produced a sheet of decals for WWII Italian "smoke ring" camouflage. It eliminated the need for hours and hours of careful airbrush work to get a perfect camo job, thus, killing the hobby.

ciao Andy, always a great job! Have you never considered to use masking putty, or something similar, for this scheme of camouflage? I usually reproduce on the stencil the form of the area to be masked, apply it on the model and than spray the 2nd color (smae in case of 3rd color). But I know that "hand made" method is much more rewarding ;) best, Alessandro

20:19 Andy, the early Spitfires were painted using masks. In real life, the separation line (the fuszzy transition ) was about half an inch wide. In scale 1/48 that fuzzy line would therefor be about 1/96th of an inch wide....... Impossible to do, even with the smallest airbrush ! That means, that on this model, in this scale, a hard line is the most authentic rendering. I also noticed Tamiya made a mistake. Again..... They put a crow bar in the little hatch. It's not supposed to be there. The Mark V was the first one to have one on board. And please....NEVER paint the crow bar red..!!! That did not become compulsory until early 1949.....!!! Most of the time they were cockpit green. Sometimes bare metal and occasionally matt black. But the bottom line is : nice build, Andy !! Looks great.
