Good afternoon to you all ❤ I've seen many different chicken tractor designs Al has made and i have to say they really are very useful. Thats going to be a lott of meat birdies you'll have. A successful way to living off grid. However i am on the grid, in a town and blowing all my money on bills.... Wish i had your life, animals, a tractor, a food garden.... Tranquil life listening to the birds and a little creek.... Ahhhhhhhn 😊 bliss ❤

@derekbarratt 24 күн бұрын
I wonder if you'd think the same way if you had to do it all, every day, come rain, snow, hail, etc, and that's before the sun comes up ! They never stop and the more they build the more they have to look after. All the animals need feeding, or letting out, or combing, or moving around. Eggs need collecting. The roads need maintaining, the lake needs looking after. Theres a tent somewhere that needs sleeping in occasionally, and a shipping container with a garage space at one end and a furnished room at the other end that I haven't seen for a long time, and they still have their house to build, and although they choose to leave all their vehicles out in the open, they really do need to be under cover. and the under cover growing area that they had at their previous place needs replicating or they will be constantly trying to keep the local wild animals from eating what they are growing. What was that word you used ? Tranquil, bliss! Be careful what you wish for. I really do watching it all, but I'll settle for being a Townie.

Good morning Lumnah family and friends. How time has changed the cost of the "old" chicken tractors. The NEW and improved tractors have added features that will add to the cost, ( metal hinges instead of piece of old milk jug, hardware cloth instead of chicken wire, ( TSC 1" X 24" X 150' for under $70 ). Great deal on the two shelters, pigs or whatever will love them. Good day to all, see you next time .

I built 5 of these about 2 years ago using your instructions from your website. We added a 12 inch chicken wire skirt around the bottom to keep the digginging predators at bay. I love them. Except for one thing. The roof sags and the top hinge is flimsy. I wholeheartedly support your addition of a 2x4. It will give the roof and the top hinge much needed support! Even a 2x2 works! Keep up the good work!

I’m not sure. A lot depends on if the wood is wet or not.

Typically Al just ties a nylon rope for pulling them, he only moves them enough to give Chickens new grass to forage, daily !

@@samvalentine3206 as the whole frame. but definitely as runners. i would put those 2 10mm lower than the rest. make the base out of 2*3 inch rectangle and the top out of the same, or 2 inch round tubing.

To reconstitute freeze dried milk is a 1-1 ratio (half a cup of dried milk to half a cup of water)

Morning LUMNAH ACRES FAMILY... Gina , a couple hints on making ur powdered milk taste like whole milk... When we lived on our homestead before we got our cow mom would stretch our milk by using a lot of powdered milk which was a lot cheaper than fresh milk especially for cooking & baking cakes from scratch since there was 7 of us in the house coz we had my grandmother & her 2 sons living with us... After u get ur powdered milk to water ratio to where u like it I have 3 tips for u... 1.) Before u mix ur powdered milk up first put it in a food processor to break it down to a fine powder so it will mix better / more evenly... 2.) Mix ur milk with warm water & it will not only mix faster & easier but more thoroughly , then just put it in fridge til it gets cold ... 3.) If u mix powdered milk with whole milk u won't be able to taste the difference between a mixed batch & fresh whole milk... My mother would mix it half mixed ( 2 quarts ) to Whole milk ( 2 quarts ) & refrigerator cold u couldn't taste the difference from whole milk ... Try i & see what you think , you'll be pleasantly surprised ...👌👌👌👍👍👍🐄🐄🐄

I used full fat powdered milk during Covid when I couldn't get to the shops... I like milk puddings. I found if I put extra powder in when reconstituting it, I couldn't taste the difference.

Thank you for sharing your chicken tractor build! I think I'll use this idea and build a coop out of it, and maybe a tractor. I'm looking to build a low cost wooden coop and by using those dog-ear fence panels as the sides I think this will be an excellent option for us! Thanks!

Regarding the freeze dried milk.... looks like milk usually averages about 87% water and 13% solids. So if you have 10grams of freeze dried milk powder, you'd want to use 80-90 grams of water to reconstitute it. At that point should be able to figure out a liquid measurement that will work with the dry powder measurement to get it consistently the same and similar to what it started out as.

"Just a Few Acres" made a dolly system to move them around the pasture on. Like a hand truck for the rear and a rope on the front to pull. Works very well!

Al and Gina....you should try calf hutches for the pigs. We use them for our dairy calves and some of the pigs decided to takeover the extra hutches. Ours are fiber glass reinforced with a steel frame. you should be able to find them relatively easily with all of the dairy farms in New England
