Chris Freeman well, they wanted to spend billions on dragging a massive iceberg from Antarctica,I believe, resplendent with penguins (despite them coming from the Arctic, north pole) so they could have an oasis. seriaas. it's on here, look it up,ice from a preserved landscape,animals not exactly built for heat, and the culture of everywhere else. money can't buy a lot of things, though most irate comments are sounding like sulking tantrums,that it can. clearly,that's proof it can't. they should invest in their own culture,né.

Chris Freeman ja, you're right, I got them mixed up with polar bears. mixed up north & south hemispheres, like the hemispheres in my bipolar brain. anyhoo, the other video on here shows them, an artist's rendering, of them using a fleet of tugboats going at 14knots per hour, dragging a gigantic iceberg, no, glacier, with polar bears _and!_ penguins on it . seriously, and this would serve to create a lush green area, despite the fact that neither animals are suited to desert life, nor each other. the thing would end in bloodshed before they even got the first 14 knots. "jesus wept", etc.

Its just such an awesome experience to be there! To me it doesnt matter if this building is an museum, or just some place to hang out. Looks great imitating the canopy found in nature. But these new Middle East pop up cities should focus more on creating eco systems for human beings instead of just fancy architecture and sky scrapers for rich tourists to gawk at. Cities require modes of transportation, supermarkets, education, cultural venues, and with advances in vertical farming increasingly locally grown produce.

Final Countdown She does have a point though. When you go to cities like Dubai or Abu Dhabi there is a distinct lack of... well free things to do. Like when you go to most major European cities for example, you can just spend the day walking around, enjoying the sites and culture. You really can’t do that in the UAE, it’s scorching hot so being outside in general is unbearable, and even if you have a car a lot of the things you do you need to pay for. It just one of those things that is nice on paper but once you get there you want to leave.

Museums usually employ lightbulbs to properly illuminate their artifacts in an otherwise dark environment. This sunbeam effect looks like some short of different "artistic" approach. In a way I perceive the exhibition not being about the artifacts themselves but rather about the artifacts in this particular environment.

It a spectacular building and something that Abu Dhabi should be rightly proud of. These people that say you can’t buy culture, what a load of rubbish, all the museums in the world didn’t magically appear, and half the stuff in the British museum was acquired from the rest of the world. As for style, you don’t think that all architecture does steal the best parts of other cultures. There seems to either be a jealousy or patronising trend to most of the comments. Different cultures have risen and fallen throughout the history of the world, we should calibrate that the UAE is bring culture to the masses and not imposed an imperial view of the world, as the US, English and France have in their time. One final thing, I find it surprising the narrator refers to the Persian Gulf when it should the Arabian Gulf.

But I think it's simply preposterous to call this a complete waste of money only befitting the wealthiest of the wealthy. If these oil diggers and investors hadn't spent money on this, a architectural masterpiece, what would they spend it on, more oil? Corporate schemes? Can we appreciate the sheer mastermind that went into such a building? If not for works like these what will future architects have to look at for reference? It it my personal opinion that this money was, while not the best spent, at least spent well.

THIS’S ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY!😲🤩❤️ how on earth haven’t I heard about this construction until now? I’m always trying to stay on top of this sort of thing. That interior space is absolutely amazing. I’m not a religious man, it almost looks like something that would be perceived by the gods themselves. And to think, there are so many other great marvels of architecture to be added around there as well. Including British and Japanese. No surprise really that the British design one looks the best though. The firm that designed it is quite famous in the industry. Love the fact that that one will have proper plants on it. They really need focus on these new pieces of infrastructure and architecture combining plant life as well as advanced technology. If the UAE really needs to be focusing on this more if they want to try and prevent an impact on the environment from there absolutely massive construction growth that’s been happening over the past three decades, plus to make sure they have enough of a backup plan once all their oil runs out and they have no choice but to switch to renewables.

People are getting confused.. the 27 billion isnt for this building alone. Its for all the museums, buildings, hotels. Its for the entire new district that this project is in.

What is the use of building these and attracting tourists while the UAE economy is crumbling down
@hoixthegreat8359

The UAE economy is definitely the least likely to collapse of the gulf states. The international appeal of Dubai and the diversified economy (they spent a lot of the oil profits on stocks and investments). And besides, it's pretty well known construction work is one of the best way to drive an economy.

The local culture will never allow the featuring of most western art which includes a lot of Judeo/Christain themes and plenty of nudes. I expect the art displayed will be 'safe' and as white washed as the rest of the UAE. Such a colossal waste of money.

Why bother when the whole region would be too hot for human habitation in 50 to 100 year? Waste of money and design. Culture can’t be bought and these buildings in the middle of nowhere are not useful for anyone.

if that's your mentality, then frankly why build literally ANYTHING, in 50 to 100 years, the cold will become hot and the hot will become hotter, so no trees, no animals to be sustained, no forests, no resources for humans to consume or use, etc. But we look at the world and everyone wants to build new projects, so what now we stop? we don't build anything? we don't progress civilization? ofcourse not. Also, This place you call "nowhere" is just like NYC, LA, Paris, or whatever city that you consider is of relevance, was also once "nowhere", no one is going to stop because they are nowhere, or because it will be so hot, human nature is to progress and grow, find solutions for the current and future problems just like we did through history, mistakes will be made, all around the world, but that's just gonna make us crave progress even more
