Budgerigar/Parakeet:

Im so glad I found your channel. I raise Love Birds and have just started with Parakeets and a Zebra Finch couple. Lots of eggs and babies. We have birds everywhere - and we are not on a farm. Soooo Monday a walk in aviary is being constructed. Your vids are proving to be a great help. Oh and we live in Iloilo! Salamat.

Very good idea with the netting over the cage door, Dexter! It is so easy for them to break out! When I construct my own aviary (I hope to keep and breed lovebirds, in the future,) I also want to build an aviary with a double door system.

Buy a few pairs of Albino or white and yellow color with pink eyes. Don’t forget lots of Octopus boats or bones for parakeets to increase their calcium for eggs shells

Nice job. I hollowed out a coconut trunk about 8" diameter, drilled an inch and a half hole and used 1/4" ply for the roof and floor, they love it.

They are budgerigars (budgies), genus Melopsittacus and native to Australia. By definition, a parakeet is any one of many small to medium-sized species of parrot, in multiple genera, that generally have long tail feathers. The budgie is the only one in the Melopsittacus genus.

You aviary looks fantastic, Dexter. Glad to see that it appears you are using some natural perches. It is beneficial to the bird's feet for them to use different widths of branches, so they can exercise their bones, muscles and tendons properly. Bark from the branches also help wear down their nails more than smooth, manufactured perches do.

I would suggest wooden nest box rather than clay pot as the clay pot gets cold very easily which will spoil the egg

Sir, parakeets here in Ph are sold at around 500pesos per pair. And its not advisable to give greens (kangkong/water spinach) everyday because these are too watery and birds can get diarrhea from it.

I only see male birds (they have a blue nose. Females have brown noses). You might want to buy some females. Love your aviary.

Suggestions ko lang po sir Dexter. Naka experience napo ako na nag ka diarrhea yung keets ko dahil po sa pagbibigay nila nang kangkong araw,araw. Nagbibigay lang po ako sakanila once a week. Fruit and veggies po M,W,F. Kangkong, talbos ng Kamote, Sweetcorn. Sa nest box din po ang suggest ko po ay may door para po makuha nyo yung patay na baby keets. Para din po malinisan nyo yung kanilang dumi upang hindi sila magka bacteria.

Large clay pots are best suitable since some hens produces large clutches. I dont recommend using bamboo since it is too small for the chicks and you can't check the health of chicks.
