Dude, these sport quad restorations are no joke my favorite type of content on KZfaq, and you’re one of the very few people who creates content like this. I love watching these full in-depth restorations and you really go the extra mile in places where others probably wouldn’t (like using OEM Suzuki grease and fluids 😄). Please keep doing what your doing man 🤘🤘

I’m an old hare-scramble and enduro racer, long, LONG since retired. I used to tear my bike down and refurbish everything every winter. I had a partial sponsor that helped me greatly. Being professional and putting your best foot forward meant acting and looking your very best. I could never EVER afford a new bike. I always raced something that was a few years old, and I took a great deal of pride making a clapped out 5-6-7 year old bike look as new as possible. I stripped it to the bare frame every winter and did the best I could. I was a top 10 or so rider, never a “winner”. I just loved to compete,and I SO appreciated the help I got. I have a small idea what you have done on your builds. Your dedication and total attention to detail is so awesome. The Z-400 is a masterpiece. You should be extremely proud. I SO enjoyed watching it from start to finish, and I am an old fart 2 wheel guy. Congratulations on your beautiful build!

Bro, you never cease to amaze me. I feel like your quality just keeps getting better. I really hope you do a “cost breakdown” so we can see what to expect if we want to build a completely brand new OEM machine. They don’t offer most machines anymore and what you just did here is the ONLY way to get a brand new machine for most models.

@@MichaelSabo really?? That’s wild. I do miss my old Z400, I should have never gotten rid of it. I got rid of it in 2015 after like 5 years of having it and the only issue I ever had out of it was the battery and clutch. I eventually built it up to race it but I had other life events push me to sell it. I have 9 project quads right now to get going and now my business is keeping me so busy I just haven’t had the time to mess with anything.

Also, to add another note. Back in 05-08 when I owned a yellowZ, everyone that rode it loved it and it was the most comfortable quad out of the other sports everyone had. Yfz/trx405s/raptor - the Z got the nickname “the couch” because the seat was so comfortable and the riding position was perfect. Like you said “it’s a rider” you could ride it WOT all day and not be fatigued at all and still have an absolute blast. Again, love the build.

Excellent job Mike. That turned out great. I think the Z400 is such a great trail quad. Great engine with a great chassis & ergos. I would love to see Suzuki bring back the Z400. I was 11 in 1986 & like you remember falling in love with the new quads coming out at that time replacing the ATCs. My first quad in 1993 was an 86 Suzuki 230 Quadsport

Install PPF film on the side plastics. That could help the hazy ones look bright and shiny plus added protection.
@christopheravery5808
@christopheravery5808 2 ай бұрын
You don’t need a torch to make the plastic shine, you can use an electric heat gun. I do it all the time, just don’t hold it in one position. Keep the gun mount and you will not melt anything and you’ll see the shine come out. You can also do it with the decals on there, just move quick side to side all around the decals without directing it straight at the decals. I do it with faded plastics all the time to bring the shine back. Just a tip for future reference.
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 2 ай бұрын
I gave the heat gun a shot when I was trying the first time around but maybe I didn't give it a fair shot. I am going to mess with the other panels that I didn't use and see if I can bring the shine up - thanks for the tip Chris!
@christopheravery5808
@christopheravery5808 2 ай бұрын
@@MichaelSabo I use mine quite a bit. I bought a blaster for my daughter that had some pretty sun faded plastics. You could scratch the layer of sun faded plastic off actually, most people would have thrown them away. I put the heat gun to it and it disappeared, blended the sun faded spots right back in, and it gave some shine back. I use those plastics for “practice plastics” so my daughter doesn’t mess up her nice plastics since they don’t make red plastics anymore unless you order 5 sets lol

Hey Michael I stumbled across your channel a few months ago when I was doing some work on my 4 wheelers. At the time I had a 400ex, Z400, and a CFMOTO 500. Fast forward almost a year later and I ended up selling all of those and went back to my original passion of restoring/fixing emerging classics. Althought I don’t have any 4 wheelers anymore I loved my Z400 and your videos inspired me to continue to wrench on what I like even if it seems like it never ends. Right now I recently got a 1996 z28 SS that I plan on keeping for a long time as it will be my 2nd project car. I appreciate your videos and watching your journey as it reminds me that as the end of the build its always worth it!

Honestly Mike, the amount of detail and money you spent in these builds I want to know who you work with. It's common to say who's good to work with and who isn't on projects like this. It's not like you're building these to make a profit, but are building them because you love them. With that being said your passion for these will lead you to find good companies to work with that have higher expectations. By the way, it's nice to see someone the same age as me getting excited like a kid with atv's🤟

So, I know you’ve been looking for property up north, but if I can make a suggestion on a GREAT piece of land look at Dover TN. Not only would you be near GDH Racing which is a great shop to get parts for Hondas and sometimes they have parts for other brands, but the property I’m talking about is 187 acres for in the $400k range. Nothing on the land, but you could build a barndominium like I was going to. The property is not only big, and it has hills and is close to the Cumberland River, it’s only like 25 to 30 minutes from Turkey Bay OHV park which has been featured in some ATV tests by various manufacturers over the years, and it’s only 4 hours south of the Bad Lands. It’s just a suggestion, I think it might be a great place for you to have a private place to test machines. There is also a big open area that looks like it’s 15 to 20 acres so you can build a proper motocross track and still have room for a supercross and arena cross track. I also know someone with a backhoe that I can MAYBE borrow, at least rent for cheap, and possibly a skid steer if you needed to really build some stuff, and when my dad comes in town he could probably help you move dirt around since he has been running that equipment for like 30 or 40 years. I am personal friends with 4 real estate agents as well, 2 are clients of my business, and I can set you up so you wouldn’t have near the stress to get into a piece of land and to find any contractors needed to build any building you would need. I used to frame houses and deliver pizzas for a local builder that also owns like 9 pizza restaurants that would be more than happy to help you build, and he is also the one with the equipment to move dirt around. He is a really good friend of mine now too. If this is something you’d like to look into let me know, and I can set you up to talk to the real estate agent and the builder if you just want to ask some questions and get info. I’d also be more than willing to show you around and point you to anywhere you’d need to go so you wouldn’t be coming here blind and alone. Last point, it’s centrally located to everything on this side of the Mississippi, and it’s only like 8 hours from Little Sahara. Hit me up if you’re interested, if you don’t want the property and it’s still available next year I might buy it if you’re he elections to right. This is my email so you won’t have to let your business get out: C.Avery652010@gmail.com Email anytime if you’re interested.

Super well done as always. Something major league satisfying about those tire covers being pulled off! 😊 P.S. I would have slapped the graphic on that 1st right side tank cover and sent it. 😂

Hi Michael, since you are a quad guy but never seamed to touch an automatic one, I would love for you to restrore/upgrade a kawasaki kfx 700. They are very fun machines and have a lot of torque and power. 😊

Gotta admit I was a bit disappointed when ya changed it up from the original OEM build plan but you have absolutely nailed it bud 😎 I don't think I would even ride it I'd have it in my lounge room on display 💙

Never anticipate anything less than perfect when it comes to your builds man, great job. love the subtle "design by Michael Sabo" in the graphics. You killed it man. Us Michaels are just damn good at rebuilding things. Wish i could show you the CR250 i completely rebuilt eight years. Went from a sacked out seized beat ass bike to showroom quality. Wish i never sold it.
