An UNMISS-led delegation made a special trip to remote Kapoeta to support reconciliation and peace-building efforts so that the revitalized peace agreement can become a reality for the community, located in the south-eastern corner of war-torn South Sudan. The delegation found the town largely deserted with most residents having fled because of the conflict and the ongoing humanitarian crisis. They held a meeting with representatives from parties to the conflict, including Government and Opposition military forces, as well as civil society groups and religious leaders. The aim is to build confidence and trust between the parties and within communities so that the immense human suffering will come to an end and the people of South Sudan can finally enjoy the peace and prosperity they deserve.
