Building Your Best Boxing Combinations - A Neat 9 Punch Boxing Combination

If you want to build the best boxing combinations for you, however many punches you want to include, there is a really neat way of building those combinations in a structured and controlled way.
In this video I show you exactly how you can build a 2 punch boxing combination into a 9 punch boxing combination.
Another way to look at this is that you get 4 boxing combinations for the price of 3, with a key principle being that you don't look at boxing combinations as just punches, there is more to it than that.
A further principle is that you select targets (head or body) and attack lines (centre line and flanks) and you recognise that when you hit one there will be an opening created on the other.
You hit the head, an opening may be created to the body.
When you hit the left flank, an opening may be created on the right flank.
This is a really effective way of making your boxing combinations super-effective and pretty easy to construct.
We don't think of a 9 punch boxing combination as a 9 punch combination, we think of it as 2 punches, with 3 punches added followed by the addition of 4 more punches.
And we don't just stack these punches up, we join them together with non-punching skills such as a body movement or a footwork skill.
You can actually sit and build 3 quite simple boxing combinations into 1 super-charged combination consisting of 9 punches and 11 skills.
Remember the principles, use simple building blocks, and you will be able to develop for yourself some of the best boxing combinations to really make your training sessions shine.
Cheers
Fran

Looking good Fran,some excellent combinations combined with good form and footwork that is also fight realistic. We often see coaches teaching 4/5 punch + combinations that are simply not realistic, either by shot selection or lack of footwork. You have ticked those boxes with aplomb my learned friend, keep up the good work 👍🏻👊🏼

Hey Fran, a great video as usual, but I have a question about the body shots. In other videos you bent your knees to drop your body before throwing hooks and uppercuts, but in this video you throw them more from an upright position. Is there something like a rule of thumb, in which situation which version should be used? And one question about the angled side step. For me, as a beginne, it looks a bit like a dangerous move, because it's slower than for example a slip. Should i use a jab or maybe a duck during the step to increase my défense against possible counters? Thank you for your help and please dont stop teaching us such great things

Great video as always fran, do you think is important to keep combos basic twos and three punch combos. Watched Inoue this weekend and he does this a lot but changes either the tempo of the shots, or target so he'll throw a one two but do it so many different ways and at different speeds for each shot and switch targets head and body?
@myboxingcoach
@myboxingcoach 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, dynamic punching is always good and Inoue is great at that. 2 and 3 shot combos are always good I think just because you can add none punching skills to reduce the risk of taking incoming. It's wonderful being able to make someone miss.

So glad to see a new video up from you, Fran! Glad to see you're doing well. I just want to sincerely thank you for making these fantastic videos that you've been doing. They are practical and straightforward for a novice like me to learn from and use; and every time I come back to revisit an episode, I pick up more things and get a better understanding of the depth to boxing. I've been playing a boxing VR game called "The Thrill of the Fight" to practice while quarantining at home. It's been a great way to use all of the wisdom you've been imparting. So again, thank you so much for making these videos!

Hi Jeff, what is that VR boxing like? Does it feel a bit like boxing, apart from impact ofcourse, or does it realy feel like playing a computer game? Dont you go all sweaty with those googles on?
@JeffReeves
@JeffReeves 3 жыл бұрын
@@erikbakker1639 VR Boxing feels very realistic. You won't feel an impact like you would, but the feedback from the controllers gives your brain enough to know if you hit and how hard you hit. It feels very much like being in the ring and sparring with someone. Obviously there's not as big of a worry about actually getting hurt, but I think that adds to seeing more of the mind games and depth to boxing. For example, I typically start my matches with the intention to practice one or two specific things throughout the match, then evaluate what was working and what wasn't between each round. Yes, you'll get sweaty lol. My recommendation is to wear a headband, keep a fan on you at all times, and be ready to drink water out of a big silicone straw between rounds. After a match or a few matches I'll usually be spent and need to take a shower. I typically wash my headset's gasket and sanitize my controllers.
@erikbakker1639
@erikbakker1639 3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffReeves thanks, that sounds interesting, i realy miss sparring, heavybag and shadow boxing is great, but i miss "the game". What kind of vr set are you using?
@JeffReeves
@JeffReeves 3 жыл бұрын
@@erikbakker1639 I've got a Valve Index, but I have a friend that recently got a Oculus Quest 2 and said it's really good for entry level. If you plan on playing "The Thrill of the Fight" (which is the best VR boxing game out in my opinion), you'll need to connect it to a PC though. With the Quest 2 you can do that wirelessly, which is great for freedom of movement.
