Thank you so much. I'm 60 years old and I laid down my sticks about 3 years ago when my bass player died. The Coronavirus (and a new electronic set) inspired me to hop back on. I feel like I'm back in Junior High, but I could tell IMMEDIATELY that I needed this. It made perfect sense to me. It was AWFUL to start but I could see it so plainly. Even made up one more that I added. If I can stick with this consistently, you will make a huge difference in my progress. Peace!

Great vid :) though something i'd advise is this. From my very first drum lesson, my teacher taught me to play open handed. I can play with my right on the ride/auxiliary hi hat, or with my left on the main hi-hat (Other way for lefties) it's a real pain at first but eventually builds up. Try it for a week perhaps? Your normal practice routine, instead of playing with your hand crossed over, just try it open handed for a bit, you'll be surprised :) Best of luck!

I wish I did this. I've only been playing 2 years, but still that's enough to mean my right hand is now much stronger than my left. Recently been trying to play more open handed, but the stamina just isn't in my left hand yet, and co-ordination with it can sometimes be an issue :(

has anyone come across this. I am a right handed person. I do everything right handed, however, anything that involves accuracy I do with my left, Including Drumming. When I play normally with the right on the high hat and left on snare I feel very comfortable, but when I go to play sixteenth notes and have to lead with my right everything gets all out of wack. Idk if I should consider a different style of play or just work until my right and left are equal. Any thoughts?

"I do everything right handed, however, anything that involves accuracy I do with my left, Including Drumming. " You are ambidextrous. It doesn't mean both arms are the same. I means you good at some things on one side and other things on the side. I'm almost that way. I have a friend that anything precise he does with his left hand, anything involving strength he does with his right.

I need tips on building the hand I use for the hi-hats (my right) because I have trouble keeping a steady beat while playing drum beats that require me to hit fast notes on the bass drum.
@filipberntsson6634
@filipberntsson6634 7 жыл бұрын
Hey. That is usually a coordination related issue. So just slow it down and find where each limb goes in the beat, and when you've got it going slow you speed it up.

@Tirreger
@Tirreger 7 жыл бұрын
GallonHat Pat Try to do it as consistent as possible. It may be very sloppy at first but after a while you will improve but you need to challenge your left hand. Don't do something that is easy for you or your left hand will never "improve".

I've been playing since the beginning of August and and I'm STILL struggling with my left (non-dominant) hand. It's really getting on my nerves and I'm starting to feel like a failure. Is it normal to still have a hard time with your weaker hand after 3 months?? I admit that for several weeks I coddled my left hand and used it as little as possible, and now it's really showing as I try to move on to harder stuff. I'll keep at it, but I'm really discouraged and disappointed with myself :( Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations though! :)

I am playing drums for 20 years and I am still struggling with my weaker hand. Some exercises are learned in weeks, some in months and some takje years. This differs from drummer to drummer. Drumming takes years not weeks... Relax and just keep on dude.

My problem is I find myself wanting to use my whole arm starting from the 3rd exercise. There's a tension that builds up my arm the more I try to do it and I'm trying to break away from that. I noticed this as I was practicing the single paradiddle. My left hand will be the death of me I swear.
