Instruction on how to build houses, integrating illumination including cables, connectors and power supply + adjusting the sub-surfaces levels and modelling the roads and asfalt surfaces.
- We´re building a beginners style Model Railroad from start to end in only 18 days -
The Model Railroad measures 1.5 x 2.5m (5 x 8ft) and can therefore be built in most bed- and living rooms. The trackplan geometrics are following industry standards, so you are free to chose the type of tracks you favor.

- Cable Stripper, Manufacturer Weicon, item 51000002.
- Laser cut kits, Manufacturer Noch, item 66314, 66110 and 66001.

Well I just dropped in to see what you were doing. I have been scratch building HO RR since 1960's, so I didn't expect much for myself, but your on my watch list (for some time) and just wanted to see what was up.... wow hats off to you. Good basics and less expensive options, great. I enjoy the hobby and watching others (1st timers especially) getting involved. I have noted over the years an increase in the number of women that visit our club open houses and show an interest in the hobby. I think your comment about family enjoying a project is true. Thanks for sharing, just an old man for Oregon, USA.

I wouldn't put too much attention in comments criticising the material choice. Everybody more able with building up a layout, should be capable using materials of their own choice. Of course this will then also upgrade the durability. I choose to use your initial layout to extend my actual setup, but therefor I will have to make so adaptations to it. I still love seeing how you go on with the layout and enjoy every episode.

I recognize the "This Side Up" on your poly ISO insulation. You have to make sure that side is up when putting on "Hot Tar" roofs on low slope roofs. I never did hot tar, but I have laid and mechanically fastened millions of square feet of Poly ISO when I installed EPDM (Rubber) and TPO (Thermal Plastic) low sloped roofs. I don't recommend using any Blue, Pink, White or ISO insulation on layouts. If you have a electric short they all start to burn at a very low temp. The Blue and Pink extruded polystyrene will melt and run while burning causing quick spread of fire. The Expanded polystyrene (bead board) comes in various densities. The less dense, the faster it burns. Same as for the Blue and Pink, but modelers probably couldn't or wouldn't afford the high density grade. Poly ISO doesn't melt and run like the other 3, but you have to have it encapsulated (like between steel roof decking and fire rated rubber) to get the fire rating. And once it flames it's very hard to put out. In most places in the USA it is illegal to install any of these in homes or business in a vertical orientation. While I don't have a layout now due to cost and size limitations, I did have one some years back of moderate size. My insurance company made me prove I used screen and plaster and not any of the 4 insulation's mentioned or they would cancel my policy for fire hazard reasons. Even spray expanding foam in a can was a risk to use. So anyone building a layout should check with their insurance carrier first. If a fire does happen, they may deny coverage and you could be out a lot more than just your layout!

So i use it only to make rail basement, then covered with fake marble effect adhesive film, lastly covered with ballast. So i can paint the rails without damage PET below...

I love these continental kits from Vollmer Faller Noch and Auhagen...they can become a collectors item in themselves. The website has the pdf for the instructions which can help to see what is involved. Its important to look for bargains though eg that Noch Amzell kit is 46 euros! Viessmann are the new owner of Vollmer so check their website. Their new 2021 catalogue is out and it is fantastic. I just ordered a load of old Vollmer city buildings to make a diorama. The Vollmer build quality is very good too

What about recycling an old computer power supply? They have several 5 and 12 volt outputs in case you need more than one supply for each. The 12 volt power supply is putting out around 670 miliamps of current to get the 8 watt output.

I have some laying around for years, never used them. Too much cumbersome. I have so much cell phone (5v), razo, laptop and others power packs (some 12v) in stock, it is much more easy to reuse these power packs than one from desktop PC. For the big LED illumination, it may be interesting, but then you must know how much power the +12V rail of power supply can give.

Absolute valid question and looking forward to your idea's Martin. Myself I still doubt using Märklin C- or K-track. Nevertheless both have a centre track. And since my plan get a reverse or turning loop, a centra track avoid a lot of troublesome electrical issues with short-cuts. Thanks for commenting in advance!!

@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden 3 жыл бұрын
Tack! Det är kakelfog. Inget speciellt. Ja, färgen mörknar när man väter kakelfogen. Vid lagertjocklek större än 1mm bildas torksprickor i gruset. Dessa tas bort genom att fylla dem med nytt lager sand och vätning med lim-vatten.
