In this episode, Aaron and the gang visit Atlantic Coast Dismantling in Jersey City, New Jersey. On this project, they are dismantling the old Wittpenn Bridge. The old Wittpenn Bridge was built from 1927-1930. There is a newly constructed bridge, also named the Wittpenn Bridge, that was recently finished and open to traffic. Hence, the demolition of the old bridge.
In this video, the crew is working on removing some of the concrete deck from the bridge. So that the concrete doesn’t fall into the river, a barge is under the girders, catching all of the falling debris. Once the barge is “full” of rubble, the excavators on top stop hammering, and the crew down below cleans the debris from the barge.
