My favorite thing is right before they played this, Doug asked the sound guy how much time they have and he said they had time for one more, so they ripped a 17 minute song off to close it out.

It’s built to spill, you should know what you’re getting into when you ask them to close out a set 😂

The ad role in the middle of the guitar solo at 5:44 ruined the entire upcoming year for me.

Broken Chairs is just an amazing song... ot sounds like hope and despair... and longing for something... like walking aimlessly in a desert and finding an oasis... the lyrics are flawless and the music is just perfect. One of my favorite songs and this live version is the best on out there.

Considering the rotating lineup nature of Built To Spill, I bet Doug choosing you to play guitar with him has gotta be some kind of honor.
@aphaiknaime592011 ай бұрын
This might be one of their best recorded live performances as a whole, so it’s a damn shame that there’s ads in the middle of it now 🙄, especially the one right after the vocal finally kicks in lol

"Broken chairs" is such a striking visual metaphor, on one hand a chair, a supportive thing, what you get a rest on, or chat with family or friends on. And "broken" suggests violence and trauma, or simply the aftermath of a particularly horrific fight. Such amazing lyrics and melody. Argh. Always that band, and that song is one of their finest. Doug is without a doubt one if not the most talented rock songwriter of his generation.
@Lunibruniful2 жыл бұрын
1. Doug didnt write this 2. The broken chairs, are society To sit upon such a chair, your body must conform to the flaws, and fit in, if you want rest.
@aphaiknaime592011 ай бұрын
Also Built to Spill definitely still wrote the music for this song, but the words are a poem from one of their friends who has long since passed (Uhuru Black).

I'm an 'Old Dude' and Built to Spill were derivative back in the day, and they definetly arn't 'rocking right' with age. They compentaly do what others do much better.

@stephenrose98454 жыл бұрын
@@-0-getliffe476 ok. lol. I know the exact dude you are at a concert. so lame. pissed because you arent 23 and discovering new music. Doug is easily better at guitar smithing than any of his contemporaries from that era and genre. get a grip. sorry that not every tour is a pixies/pavement/smiths/joy division/elliott smith resurrection tour. Go listen to wilco and spoon and continue being a hipster. Dug and Brett outshred any indie guitar duo ever. ill put them up against any duo on pure sonic guitar smithing.

Doug Martsch looks a lot like Krist Noveselic. I'm sure I'm not the first to make this observation.

You probably are because he looks nothing like him.
@kevinmurtagh49964 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking the same thing the other day! And even more so than looking like him, his voice sounds IDENTICAL to Krist’s voice! Listen to interviews with Doug- their voices are 100% the same.
