After watching the highlights, Bulgaria played better and had better players. Bulgaria deserved to advance no question about it. I mean they knocked out the defending world cup champions Germany from the tournament.

@@Trancymindnahhh México played better …..the only reason, Mexico didn’t beat Bulgaria in play time was because the referee unfairly red carded their best forward (Garcia) on the pitch on the 50th minute. Mexico played with one less man for 70 minutes and Bulgaria couldn’t beat them with one man down. If anything Mexico continued attacking and creating chances. If Mexico had not received a red card in the beginning of the second half, the legendary Hugo Sanchez would have came in in the second half and that team would have been unstoppable. Mexico played with two forwards, but with one man down, they had to play with one forward. Apart from that, Mexico played with the home advantage since Mexico and the US are neighboring countries.

El mismo mejía barón dijo que sí quería meter a hugo sánchez por benjamín galindo, pero como hugo se negó a jugar en media cancha ya no quiso mover nada, y tuvo razón, si metía a hugo capaz que éste hace lo que se le pega la gana. El error fue el orden de los tiradores, primero debió ser benjamín Galindo, luego claudio suárez (el único que anotó) después aspe y los demás (capaz que tiraban menos presionados)

In my opinion, the subsequent red card to Luis Garcia was given by the ref to even the playing field because I believe the ref had an attack of conscience for sending off Emil Kremeliev for no reason. I understand the ref too was sent home after this game, just like Swedish referee Bo Karlsson, who was sent home by then-FIFA president Joao Havelenge after rashly booking Nigeria's Sunday Oliseh for a foul committed by Augustine Eguavoen in the game between Argentina and Nigeria, the only game he officiated. Havelenge had no patience with erring referees and during his administration, several referees had their licenses revoked or suspended. As a result, the refs in the mid-1990's upped their game, and many were brilliant, with the legendary Pierluigi Collina setting a standard that most of today's referees are struggling to live up to.

You can tell the referee was 100% pro mexican. I saw this game live and there shouldn't been a yellow card nor a foul. I was shocked when the bulgarian player received the 2nd yellow card.
