The Eastern South Slavic languages form the eastern subgroup of the South Slavic languages. They are spoken mostly in Bulgaria and North Macedonia, and adjacent areas in the neighboring countries. They form the so-called Balkan Slavic linguistic area, which encompasses the southeastern part of the dialect continuum of South Slavic.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.

A thing that might be slightly misleading is the fact that you have shown masculine forms in BG but feminine form in MK when it comes to numbers and adjectives. If you show only the masc. or only fem. forms for both languages it would show the similarity even more.

The proper way to say the colour blue in Macedonian is 'син' (sin), same as in Bulgarian. 'Плав' (plav) is a serbism, mostly used in the northern parts of Macedonia which border Serbia.

Oh, my topic here I’m a fluent speaker of both Bulgarian and Macedonian and to me, Macedonian sounds softer because they use в (v as in video) in the verbal forms instead of х (as h in harm) and in Macedonian, the stressed is more or less fixed (it falls on the penultimate, or third-to-last, syllable) rather than in Bulgarian (it’s flexible there) And Bulgarian shares more common vocabulary with Russian cuz Bulgaria was influenced more by the Soviet Union (and even was a Socialist Republic, too, but not a part of the USSR), whereas Macedonian is more influenced by Serbo-Croatian cuz North Macedonia was once a part of the former Yugoslavia
@HeroManNick132

Macedonian is not always softer than Bulgarian, it is often more harsher because it is based of the Bulgarian Western dialects where they change ''JA'' with hard ''E'' sound and often ''JU'' is just ''U.'' The only ''softer'' thing about Macedonian is at least still kept more of the ''JE'' sounds, while Bulgarian is the only Slavic language that lacks of ''JE'' sounds compare to the rest. Some words which have ''JE'' sound are basically Old-Bulgarian form that due to time dropped and changed to hard ''E'' This is the only ''soft'' thing about Macedonian.

As a Romanian, I found it curious to notice similarities as well. " Obraz " in Macedonian means cheek in Romanian as well wheareas the Bulgarian counterpart " buza " means " the lip ". Other cognates I noticed were the words for " ankle " and " leg ", ankle being " gleznă " in Romanian and " crac " in Romanian is most commonly used to describe leg trousers, although it is obvious the words are related and some regional dialects in Romania do use the word to describe just " leg ". So the influence from the neighbours is obvious, which I truely love with my language!

If Serbian, Bosnian & Croatian which are 99% the same can be seen as seperate langauges then Macedonian & Bulgariam who have a greater number of differences should easily be considered seperate. Completely impartial here. I like and have nothing against bulgarians and macedonians. But when I listened to this video I understood Macedonian bit better. Especially when they were saying words like ruka, dlan, koleno etc. The sentences were harder to understand naturally, but still understood it bit better then Bulgarian. Now I don't know how similar these languages were in the past and how similar they are now compared to the past. Some Bulgarians say Macedonian been heavily influence by Serbo-Croatian, but I'm not sure they would change so many common day words like ruka (arm) or koleno (knee) so easily. I might be wrong. Macedonian to me seems like it was naturally more influenced by serbo-croatian, not just on purpose. To me Macedonian sounds a little bit like a mixture between Serbian and Bulgarian with some of it's own unique things. I don't know. Not an expert. Could be wrong.

They are 98 percent the same, just it's based on Western dialects the Macedonian language, while Bulgarian is mostly on the Eastern dialects. Also Macedonian contains high amount of Serbisms from Serbo-Croatian plus their alphabet while Bulgarian has small amount of Russian influence.

I like your comment in general. But I have to make several corrections here. It's not Ruka but Raka, and not Daln but Dlanka. Talking about South Slavic languages we have wide range of language continium from Slovenia all the way to Bulgaria. And everything is sliding from one way of words and sayings to the next. Difference in accent, expressions and special words are here, but in general we can understand each others quite easily. You can watch the video compared Bulgarian, Serbian and Slovenian language and see how close our language is.

I am a Turk and my origins date back to Turks that transferred from Greece to Turkiye after Greco-Turkish Population Exchange Agreement. They were from Gevgeli (now Gevgelija, Гевгелија in Cyrillic Alphabet). Then, Gevgelija was part of the Selanik (Thessaloniki) Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. In 1912 Gevgeli was surrendered with the rest of Selanik to Greek army due to the fact that Ottoman army was in disarray and disorganized and vilayet was not in a defendable position After population exchange agreement between Turkiye and Greece came into force in 1923, now long deceased members of my family found themselves among Turks that were being transferred. I do not know what happened to Gevgeli after that , and how Gevgeli became a part of contemporary Northern Macedonia, however, according to the stories told by my now late elders, they were living there with Bulgarians and Greeks. Although Greeks had a considerable amount of population in Gevgeli, they were just minority. Majority was in hands of Bulgarians. I am repeating Bulgarians. According to what told by my elders, people they lived together were calling themselves Bulgarians and they were called as Bulgarians by their both Turkish and Greek neighbors too. That means people who call themselves Macedonians today were calling themselves as Bulgarians then. That is; Macedonians are actully Bulgarians who adopted a new identity. I do not want to attack any identity, but that is the story, you can even call it history if you like, told by people that left Gevgeli more than a century ago and this is how things were seen by third sides. Maybe, I am going to overstep the mark, but I will ask: Hey Yugoslavia, what did you do to these Bulgarians and how you made them deny Bulgarian identity and declare themselves Macedonians? How! Interesting, history is full of surprises!

Also in macedonian they say obraz (cheek) and noga (leg) which is like in serbo- croatian. Colours are more similar as well then in Bulgarian. Ruka (arm) is actually similar with both of them.
@HeroManNick132
@HeroManNick132 Жыл бұрын
We have ''нога'' too in Bulgarian but for us it's rather archaic and old-fashioned way of saying ''leg''. I know ''крак'' exists in Macedonian too but they prefer ''нога'' to say, while we ''крак.'' We have ''плав'' too mostly used as like a person with blue eyes but it's rarely used they also have ''син'' for blue too. Also it's funny but ''портокалов, виолетов'' in Bulgarian are nuances of the orange and purple colors, while ''лилав'' is a nuance of purple in Macedonian. Also they don't have ''оранжев'' but ''оранж'' for orange which is used mostly as orange paint. And also the colors are in masculine in Bulgarian because ''цвят'' is color in Bulgarian, while Macedonians use a Turkish word for color which we use it more as paint - ''боjа/боя'' And if you slept under a rock my Serbian guy, is that Macedonian is a forcefully Serbified Bulgarian Western dialect to be a ''different language'' and that's why Macedonian is easier than Bulgarian to understand. Did I answer your questions?

@@vladimirkacarski340 As a person who speaks fluent Spanish, your claims are false. Spoken day Macedonian may be compared like Argentine Spanish or Carribbean dialects who sound different from Castilian Spanish, but are still inteligible. I know North Macedonians usually love to be associated to Serbo-Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin, but their languages are way too closer. Yes, Bulgarian is close to Russian for obvious reasons if you look into your history. But, if so many international linguistic professionalists put your newly created language with Bulgarian in the same group, it's because they did their checks. I understand and respect your continuous denial but what surprises me is how you suddenly understand 100% watching Bulgarian videos or when you apply for the Bulgarian passport to emigrate to Germany. How can you convince me that I don't understand the Macedonian dialect if one of my closest friends from central Bulgaria is married to a guy from Ohrid who are peacefully living together for more than 15 years and he proudly still has his Macedonian dialect and nothing wrong about it but does not deny his original Bulgarian roots.

But use have mixed everything, then use it to prove those two languages are similar even they didn't, and to the point your point is the MK and BG languages are similar. I got you till here. But you cannot claim that our Both languages are distant and not similar if you look at them from grammar, phonetic and other levels. The question was if some dialects can understand or not in MK and BG languages? You cannot say Jamas (never in Spanish) is the same as Jamais (never in Portuguese). Now have you got my point? I will understand everything on TV serial people speaking and distinguish this two languages at the basic level and never say they're The Same language!!! Thanks for understanding

Becaues their language isn't "Macedonian". its a giant lie, supported by globalists consciously trying to undermine people's identities using Skopje as a proxy. It started with attacking Greek identity by ridiculously recognizing Skopje as "Macedonians"> ts now spreading to Bulgaria where foreign press now claim Bulgarians are not "real" Bulgarians.. The globalists hide their racism and propaganda behind the words "human rights". (and they don't undermine just Balkan identities. the do it globally)

Macedonian language never existed in ancient times in the Middle Ages and today. The so-called "Macedonians" are former Bulgarians and speak one of the many dialects of the Bulgarian language. If someone shows me something written in the "Macedonian" language before 1947 when, for geopolitical reasons, they began to call the Bulgarian language in the geographical region of Macedonia "Macedonian", I will give him 1000 dollars.

It has always been interesting to me that no one mentions how the Bulgarian language became one of the Slavic languages. Namely, the proto-Bulgarian language is from the group of Turkic languages, and the Bulgarians themselves received the language and customs from the Slavs they conquered. Who were the Slavs from whom the Bulgarians took their language? Were they the ancestors of today's Serbs or the ancestors of today's Macedonians? Perhaps this is the reason why the Bulgarian and Macedonian languages are so similar.
