양양 낙산사
Naksansa Temple, Yangyang
신라 문무왕 11년(671) 의상대사가 창건한 고찰이다. 낙산사는 양양의 대표적인 명소이자 이 지역의 가장 역사적인 유적지 중 하나입니다.
This ancient temple was built in the 11th year of King Munmu's reign of Silla (671) by the Buddhist monk Uisang. Naksansa Temple is one of the foremost sights of Yangyang, and one of the most historic sites in the region.
강화 보문사, 남해 보리암과 함께 우리나라 3대 관음사 중 하나로 꼽힌다.
Along with Ganghwa's Bomunsa Temple and Namhae's Boriam Hermitage, it is said to be one of the three centers of the cult of Avalokitesvara in Korea.

이 관음보살상은 팔각형의 금속 대좌 위에 책상다리를 하고 등을 곧게 펴고 머리를 약간 앞으로 굽힌 모습을 묘사하고 있습니다. 그가 쓴 왕관은 매우 화려해 보입니다.

이 사찰에는 의상대사에 관한 전설이 많이 남아 있습니다. 관세음보살은 그의 열렬한 기도에 대한 응답으로 바다에서 떠올랐다고 합니다.
The temple has many legendary tales of the famous monk Uisang. Avalokitesvara was said to have risen from the sea in response to his fervent prayers.
의상대는 바닷가 바위 위에 세워졌으며, 의상이 보살을 목격한 곳이다. 홍련암 홍연암은 가파른 해안 절벽에 서 있는데, 이곳에서 의상이 바다 위에 떠 있는 붉은 연꽃에서 보살이 나오는 것을 목격했다고 전해진다.
Uisangdae Pavilion was built on top of a rock by the sea, from where Uisang witnessed the bodhisattva. Hongnyeonam Hermitage, the Red Lotus Hermiatage, stands on a steep coastal cliff, where Uisang is said to have witnessed the bodhisattva emerging from a red lotus flower floating on the sea.
