Bull snakes are gaining more popularity every year amongst reptile breeders. I’ve been breeding them for decades, and in this video, I cover a 60 day period from egg are first laid until they hatch and show what their wild cousins are doing in the wild during that time!

@ I go meet snakes here in Wisconsin. Have you ever seen our light blue/grey Eastern Hognose Snakes with the black pseudo monocle cobra markings on the hood? Those guys are at least as cool as the shiny black ones.

Excellent video, Dāv! I love seeing your "Are we keeping them correctly?" videos, they are SO informative and give us a better perspective on some of our favorite reptiles in the wild. Also, those albino babies look outstanding! Getting a surprise like that is one of the best parts of breeding.

I adore bullsnakes. I enjoyed finding them when I used to live in Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. None in my area of Arkansas now, so I thoroughly enjoyed this video. That flame is stunning!! Great video.

Awesome video as always, man! My all time favorite species for sure. I'm really glad you mentioned the hotspot being about 86. I don't know why there's much debate on this, but a lot of people say 90 or more. Mine hardly ever go to their hotspot when I had it that warm. Experimented and found that 86 is PERFECT! Thanks again for spotlighting my favorite species, can't wait to see what's next!

I don’t have a bull snake but I want to be part of the club some day. Loved the video. I definitely absorbed some great info on some gorgeous animals. Nice to see no insects on the attack or pools you need to steer around. Thanks for all you bring to us.

Great video Dave, always so full of information. I enjoy alot of videos on tube about snakes, but yours always top the cake. For you to go out to there natural habitats & find them to explain why they do what they do really captures the audiences attention I feel. Keep up the killer videos & great clutch!

I grew up in San Diego and lived in Lakeside, at the base of Rattlesnake Mountain. We lived in a new tracked housing development that was built on Rattlesnake Mountain. Our home was the furthest back, in a cult de sack, where the mountain was. We used to get snakes in our yard all the time. Lots of Rattlesnakes, California King snakes, Regular King snakes, Racers, Black Racers, and Gopher snakes. One year we had 2 Gopher snakes in our front yard. They must have been getting ready to hump or maybe they had both just gotten laid, because they were together but both of them were massive. My Dad is 6’-1” and the one snake was longer than my Dad was tall. He had it by the head and picked it up over his head and it still had its tail touching the ground. None of us had ever seen a Gopher snake that big before but we had lots of wild rabbits on the mountain too so my guess is that it was eating lots of those. It was mean too. It kept striking at us. The other Gopher snake next to it was right at 6” because when my Dad picked it up by the head, it was as long as he is tall. At the front of our housing development, was a creek with lots of crawdads. It was about a mile away from our house because the housing development was so big. My Dad held both snakes and had my cousin drive us to the creek. He let the snakes go there and then we returned home. I always thought Bull snakes and Gopher snakes were 2 separate types of snakes. I now live in the plains of North East Colorado and we have a ton of Bull snakes out here. They get pretty big out here too but nowhere near as big as the Gophers snakes back home. The rattlesnakes out here also don’t get as big either. Back home, we would see them on occasion, over 6’ but generally in the 4’ to 5’ range but very girthy. Out here, everyone I have seen has been under 4’ and much slimmer. I’m not sure if they are Western Diamondbacks or not? Maybe just Prarie Rattlesnakes? Back home we had several varieties. Westerns, Redbacks, Speckled, Mojave, Tigers, and Sidewinders.

I just found a Gopher Snake in Oregon. Very Tan & Brown with a very light belly. 13-14 inches long. September 17th I found it. Bringing it back to Las Vegas. I’ve kept Kings in Florida. This is my first Gopher. 80 bands and actually it has the # 1 printed on its back. Amazing! It has eaten very well in these past 2 weeks. I’m setting up a Big 75 gallon tank. With 4 to 5 hides. One I made of cedar wood. Than some white rocks and tan rocks with whit gravel and coconut substrate on one side. It’s going to look awesome. I learned a lot from this video. Thanks! 🤙🏻

You should consider doing an (are we keeping them correctly?) video on Caiman Lizards. They are an amazing species and most breeders are struggling to breed them in a captive environment resulting in more farm raising which tend to have more health issues including parasites.

My little girl is still pretty young - ~12 weeks? I think eventually I would like to breed her when she's of age. So hold off on brumating her until then, right?! Have to say this video made me incredibly homesick as I grew up in Michigan and now live in Southern California but don’t take that in a bad way, these videos in the Midwest are a pleasure to watch for me as it takes me straight back to my childhood being knee deep in a pond catching bullfrogs lol. Maybe the next time I’m out there Emily’s zoo will be completed and I can visit! I am a new subscriber but I’m thoroughly enjoying your videos and your passion for reptiles!! I left the hobby for a bit because I got into dog sports but I recently dove back in and it’s been wonderful.. started with one snake and whoops now I have 9 but I’m sure you get it. 😂

Great info on bull snakes - thanks. A couple of years ago my son and I encountered a gopher snake (southern nevada) about 5 feet long - temps around 100. Completely different scenario down there. .

My favorite snakes are the California kingsnake and the rosy boa. The thing I love about breeding them is that I can cycle both species for breeding under identical conditions because the rosy boa and California kingsnake is found in exactly the same place.

Besides my other snakes, I have one adult bull snake who is a real character. I can see how Pituophis may not be for every one, but I adore my big cranky dude. It would be absolutely incredible to see one in the wild but sadly, they are not in my state.

Currently keeping my yearling on coconut chips. Have kept them in aspen shavings, as well. When I upgrade this girl into her bigger enclosure, I'm going to try something new. Hemp litter. I wanna see how it does for burrowing, and test the humidity level. It's hot and dry here, so a little humidity is nice sometimes, but I don't want it "humid". A hide, water dish, secure lid, UVB light, a heat mat, and a branch or two. Happy snakes. *should mention. I have a Pacific gopher.

I keep my girl on hardwood mulch, her favorite hide is under the water bowl where it stays kinda moist and cool. I use an overhead full spectrum light that emits just enough heat to maintain that mid 80s temp. She's about a year old I believe. Best eater in the snake room lol My bull is gorgeous, and fierce, too! Have you seen her on my MinionMuseum IG? I think I added a photo to a FB thread you posted too. She's very yellow and red and orange but has a green tinge on her head. Her black is really dark and bold too. Wonder what locality that is? I love the editing in this video, and of course I love you and those gorgeous eyes and luxurious hair XD

I have a bull snake that I acquired from Emily and Ed of snake Discovery last year. I'm hoping to get an albino Stillwater this year. Bull snakes are definitely my favorite type of snake!
