Hens remain brown and the male can either get spots, then gradually get more black and chestnut coloured feathers until they turn completely black and chestnut colour.

Sometimes they can go from brown to strait black and chestnut colour.

The hens sing but not frequently like the males

Good day thank you for your comment, a younger bird will be brown in colour and will usually get black spots or turn black and chestnut colour after a year. Females are also brown but the male will usually sing what we call in Trinidad scatch role when they are young and and still brown which sounds usually softer than the clean notes they sing and the scratch role notes are usually mixed up notes when they have learned the role and matured in the role they will sing louder and cleaner.

For safety I will keep it for a day or two for the most in the fridge.

Good day both ways can work once they pair off, there are some really aggressive females so leaving them together could result in the female harming the male, in a volley/ large enclosure leaving them together works better as they have more room to express themselves naturally. The female will show acceptance to the male when she drop her wings and squat
