The dart player on this show was my Uncle Don, who sadly died a number of years ago. Him and his partner decided beforehand that if they got to the final, they'd gamble. Unfortunately, nerves got the better of my Uncle, who had been hitting high scores all through the show. They both enjoyed the experience!

I never get the obsession with 16s being easier then 20 - it's in the most straight line possible and the 16 is down on the edge of the board so should be way harder

Where the dart player missed the treble 20's and only scored 6 with two darts, the same situation on the 16 would have strayed twice into treble 7 and scored 42. It's a hell of a difference, and would have been enough to win the prize on just two wayward throws.

I remember Jim Bowen admitting once that this show was a bit of a scam. In an interview he said that the expensive holidays were only ever shown when the contestants lost, if they won it was quickly changed to a less expensive prize.

If you listen to Jim around the 3:00 mark, they won £890 in the first two rounds (I'd love to see the full episode to see how they did it) - which wasn't gambled in the earlier series and Lionel Smith won an additional £730 for them in the charity throw. They probably thought to themselves: "Let's have a bit of fun for the rest of the show." That and their confidence levels were most likely very high.
