Bullwinkle Mr. Know-it-All: Short subject from Jay Ward Productions c.1962. Source from Bullwinkle's Moose-a-Rama, (aired Miami, FL, early 1990's).
The un-restored version is also in my "Bullwinkle Short Subjects" playlist for comparison & completism.

"Riding the Rods" is a term that got started in the 1800's when rail cars had "truss rods" under them to strengthen them much like an inverted bridge. Some cars had enough space under them that it was possible for a man to ride resting on those rods. Of course, train lengths were so short then the chances of being caught and ejected by the crew or railroad police were pretty good.

When you said truss rods, I thought you we're referring to the metal bars inside guitar necks.

I read a long time ago about the origin of the word "Hobo". It's Hoe Boy. Men who would hire themselves out for the day to do gardening, farming and odd jobs for food and a dry place to sleep. There were a lot of them in rural areas during the Dust Bowl.

For some reason, the DVD release of the show seems to not include Bullwinkle's line, "You're welcome! Rocky." at 1:26.
