So i got this Ibanez EHB1005MS from LowendLobster and I have to say... this bass is really nice. It takes a while to get used to the fanned frets but after you get accustomed to the spacing creating music with this bass is a dream. Lobster also swapped the Bartolini BH2 pickups for Aguilar soapbars and it really sets itself apart from anything I have ever played.
Bass Specs:

Scale Length: 889mm/35" scale at 5th string, 838mm/33" scale at 1st string

Fretboard: Roasted Birds Eye Maple fretboard with Abalone off-set dot
Frets: Medium Stainless Steel frets
Neck Pickup: Bartolini BH2
Bridge Pickup: Bartolini BH2
EQ: Vari-mid 3-band EQ
Controls: EQ bypass switch (passive tone control on treble pot)
Bridge: MR5HS bridge (18mm string spacing)
Hardware: Black
Strap Locks: Schaller S-Locks strap pins
Inlays: Luminescent side dot inlay
Finger Ramp: Included
Factory Tuning: 1G,2D,3A,4E,5B

Im considering this line of bass. My only concern is the side markers. Are they hard to see against the roasted maple? I've seen quite a few reviews saying they had trouble seeing them. I get that they glow in the dark, but I"m never playing in the dark and I need to see the side markers, lol.
@misharistic1808
@misharistic1808 Жыл бұрын
@@SixString_J5 it’s not that much of an issue. If the markers are difficult to see, there many alternatives, like stickers or markers on where they are so you can see them better.

Most informative and detailed video I've seen for this bass guitar model so far. I'll say this: To my ears fanned frets have a very distinct tonal range. All the notes from the upper to lower range tend to respond and sound the same. Great sustain, similar resonance note-to-note, and very few hot/dead spots. On paper that should be a very good thing. But I have to admit that compared to the many straight-fretted basses I've played that had their own quirks and imperfections this instrument sounds almost 'too perfect', like a sample played on a keyboard. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just a different thing that might take some getting used to...not to mention adjusting to the fanned fret spacing. Very done, thanks for posting.

I do love the body design and the fanned frets, and some color options on other models make them appear even more "futuristic". I think it's best that I stick with regular frets for a while, though, and maybe get one of these as a four-string when I can play grooves and chords on the fly like you 😅 Absolutely in love with my sr300e so I know ibanez makes some wonderfully slick and lightweight basses 👌

If you think about how the mid sweep works, it's doing exactly as you'd expect. Without the gain pot adding or subtracting any level, sweeping the frequency control is having exactly zero effect on the tone. If you think of it like a graphic eq, the sweep is picking which band you want to adjust. For the sake of argument, is your finger on the 200hz slider, or 500hz, or 2K? Do you hear a change without raising or lowering the level of those? Nope. Same thing with the mid sweep.

Okay. I just ordered this bass. Actually wanted a four string ehb, but they don’t have an MS model and I’m not feeling the white one. Also after playing a Fender short scale for a week, which was a waste of my money, I decided to go with the five string. Only been playing a couple of years since I’m retired, so I guess learning a 5er is my next step. Hopefully it won’t make me suck five times more than before. It will be here Thursday. Perfect timing since my wife goes to her office on Thursdays.

@@BullyThaKidd Absolutely and I really appreciate your offer! I would have to get set up to do so...any suggestions from you on how to that on the cheap would be very helpful...I'm 48 so I'm an old school analog kind of guy. I would like to show you, Lobster and your audience my 3 "heavily" modded SX jazz basses among others. That's how I found your channel in the first place! Basically only the bodies (Alder and 2 Ash)are still SX but I still managed to end up with incredible sounding and playing basses fairly inexpensively. I think you guys would like them as well since you do the same. For now I'll keep watching and participating until I can get all set up and make it happen. Again, any tips on equipment would help greatly. Thank you, Bully!

I have issues with my left hand reaching the first positions on most Basses. On a strap the slanted back of the EHB wants to be worn lower, and it wants to sit more to the right than most Basses. This equates to the first fret being about where the third fret would be on a P bass. It offers a whole lot of playing comfort, not having to support the headstock is amazing as well.

Hey Allen, I just ordered the same guitar in Black, exactly which Aguilar soapbars did he install, I went to their site and there are several variations to choose from. I Love the sound with those pickups, they sound much better. They compliment the build quality of the whole guitar! Really brings out the resonance of the strings! Saw a guy with a bass like this a year or so ago . He sounded great like you. I really don’t understand the fret slanted thing though ? Reminds me of a night I had in a brothel in Dubai years ago. They had a band from Iran or somewhere? The guitar player had a strat and I tried to sit in but he had a microtonal slanted extra fret thing happening and I was derailed quickly. I got drunk and left , after then sitting in on violin. No sex because I’m a good boy
