The fact that they're able to just make jokes like that to each other without even a hint of jealousy or misunderstanding really shows the depth of their friendship lmao

Chi chi is the mom of the group. She totally just made everyone laugh and bond while everyone was kind of getting bummed. It was wholesome. Great subtext.

In truth, Chichi knows how much Bulma loves Goku. Bulma helped raise Goku, even teaching him how to take a bath. So without Goku, who Bulma will always see as the kid she found in the woods, she would be sad. Goku is basically the little brother she never had. So Chichi was trying to cheer her up with this line. Vegeta didn’t get in the way because he understands his wife’s hurt as well because he grew to see Goku the same way. Yamcha added in that he was available and got insulted as a way of cheering Bulma up because it finally made Bulma laugh. It didn’t hurt him because they are way beyond that stage of still being teenagers. They are in their late 30s and Bulma is 41, a full 25 years after she met Goku for the first time.
