This dress watch from Bulova, model #96B158, is part of their Precisionist series. The high-beat quartz movement beats 16 times per second with a second hand that seems to flow as smoothly as an automatic watch.

Even in 2024, Bulova Precionist still looked so elegance with smoother second dial movement than any other mechanical automatic timepiece with 36,000 bph movement like any luxury Rolex, Bell & Ross and Omega watches. Yeah, this is just quartz watch BUT with high khz frequency that doesn't make it lookedl like a cheap watches. As this is battery powered watch like Casio, no expensive service is required to get this automatic-movement-like watch at affordable price and can be worn for years witbout any worry! Great and aestbetic timepiece tho. 😊

I have been looking for this watch before the pandemic. I found the blue version with the bracelet. The price started at 329. The sales person worked her calculator and came down to 295. Ok, so if I apply for a store credit card I get another 20% off. So with coupons it came down to about 220. For some reason, I had to wait till I receive the card in the mail. I came back a couple weeks later and said that the other sales person had put a watch aside for me. She had found it and scanned the tag, it came up 125!! SOLD! The bracelet has male end links so it doesn't wear well. I just love the Seconds Hand!! Love the dial! When I get a chance I will swap the strap.

I have that one from 2013 before lifting, with tuning fork at 12 o'Clock (and few other minor differences). Best watch ever!

Amazon just raised the price back up to $279.99 I ordered it last night for $169.99 I have a Bulova Lunar Pilot with the same quartz movement. The Precionist, at the lower price, sans the sapphire crystal is a steal….if you have a 7” plus inch wrist.

I have this watch and it's wonderful. It's the watch I use to set my others, if not setting to NIST time. It is very underrated.

This is a watch I’ve been geeking on for quite sometime! Oddly enough I had never looked it up on Amazon. Now that it’s reduced, it’s an interesting price indeed! The discount makes up for the short battery life, mineral crystal and not superb water resistance. And there’s a chronograph version too. Thanks for the great review!

I just HAPPILY picked it up for $247 on Amazon. It looks like Amazon must've bought out Bulova's stock when they discontinued it in bulk and were selling them off that discounted. You're 100% right, first thing to go is going to be the strap. I think it would look good with a rich brown leather strap.

@@EricsEverydayWatches Thanks, I'm not a collector, but somehow, after seeing Bulova's Marine Star 98B30 , I've ended up with 7 watches (sticking to Japanese or Swiss movements where I can) this year including my White Whale: A positive display Olive Drab Casio Rangeman 9400. I bought a couple of watch repair kits on Amazon and managed to revive a 10 year old watch that I thought was gone forever and I've adjusted, changed batteries and replaced a few of my bands. It's fun. And thanks. 😊

Was about to buy one in store in person but upon testing, the date change didn't work at all. So far from what I've read it's a plastic gear and no watchmakers want to deal with it.

Hello tomcruz3774. I have not heard that before, that’s interesting and a little disappointing. I think with Quartz movements, often times they just replace the whole movement but I did a quick search and it looks like the P102 might have been discontinued. Hopefully they will be coming out with a replacement for it. Thanks for the info.

A friend of mine bought this watch via e-bay. His one has a completeley brushed case with no polished bezel nor any other polished case parts. Now he's wondering if it might be fake but consideeing that the second hand movement is indeed the smooth, characteristic sweep of this model, along with the hands and the dial that are in correspondance to the original, it seems very unlikely that it's fake. I mean - faking a watch of this price range is completely inefficient from a financial perspective, especially considered that there are no other watch movements that incorporate such a smooth second hand sweep other than grand seiko spring drives, at least not to my knowledge. So does any one know if there have been versions of this watch produced with a completely brushed case finish? Or does any one know what i could tell my friend about how to check the authenticity of his watch without paying a watchmaker for his services?

Hello mugen jin. I had this happen to me once on ab different watch. I think, but I’m not 100% sure, manufacturers might make small changes like the brushing depending on what market the watch is intended for. I would remove the back and see if the movement inside is the correct one. If it is, then it’s probably legit. Hope that helps.

Just picked this up on Amazon for $169. I had $80 in points and got 5% back. Couldn't pass it up. The only negative I have on this watch is the mineral crystal.

Hey Travis. I love the Amazon card for just that reason. That is a fantastic deal. I agree with you about the Mineral crystal, my approach is, I will slowly replace all of them with sapphire. Once my watches get scratched up. enjoy the watch.

This is one of the better looking watches from Bulova. Most of their watches are ugly looking and they seemed to have missed the memo about the humongous dials being out of style nowadays.
