Speaking of TO vs TEA. My great Uncle's tractor is a little Harry Ferguson TO 20. I am pretty sure it has a Continental engine in it. I know my Grandfathers Massey Ferguson-65 has a Continental engine. Seems all the ones I have seen here in the US have Continentals. Really enjoying the series. I am just starting the restoration my the Massey Ferguson-65 so I am sure all of this knowledge will come in handy.

My concern with the coloured gauges are that you don't really know where the zero pressure is. Hot engine and low idle can give a reading near the bottom of the red area, but we don't know exactly. The gauges for the Standard Motors 23C for instance have much wider red areas and no stops. The needle comes from outside to the left of the red area, when the engine is off. My estimations are that you still have 0,5 bar at the very bottom of the red area. The same as for a oil pressure indicator lamp. The 23C specify the pressures at 1400 rpm.

Im goint to test the gauges on the market now and see what they say. It will be an interesting exercise

I had a 100 psi gauge in my fergie, but when it's hot the gauge dont show any pressure at all. Put the 60 psi one in and now it shows about 20 psi at idle when hot and about 35 hot at 2000rpm ish but it doesn't like multigrade oil, I use sae50 mono grade for vintage stuff or else I have no pressure when it's hot!

50 is fine and it does help a worn engine and prolong its life before a rebuild.

I think the TO has a continental engine but Im not positive as we dont have them here the TE often has a standard motor company engine.

I have a 35 messi fergusion tractor.. The engine is newly made. But the oil pressure is good until the engine is started and the engine is warmed up, and after the engine is warmed up, when the engine rotates at a low rpm, the oil pressure decreases. But after accelerating the engine, the oil pressure increases. What is the reason for the oil pressure to decrease when the rpm of the engine runs low? If possible please give me an answer to this..!!

Get a good quality gauge and see what pressure it has. Dropping oil pressure a little as it gets hot is normal but you still want say 10psi at idle if possible.

Hi Lance, on the 3rd gauge you show, where would 50lbs be in the green section....mine is reading just under 1/2 way?
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 2 жыл бұрын
Probably the upper third of the green as the red should be at about 60psi.

Here in the US, that grease hose would likely be NPT.

Lance, I have a mf34 petrol and when cold the oil pressure very high and then when the motor warms up it drops to the red low. Is this due to the 20w 50 oil I'm using? Is it normal? Am I harming the motor? There's plenty of contention online about if this is normal or worm oil pump...

20/50 is fine and a good choice, the gauges are made cheaply and we will check calibration in a later video.

G'day Lance, do you happen to know what PSI equates to the different points on the 35 gauge? That is, the points where it goes from red to green and then to red again? I've always been curious about that!

My TEA20 and the manual have never agreed about oil pressure. Would you believe the gauge indicates 95psi with cold oil and 50-60psi at working temperature with 15W-40 oil? Granted, the cold pressure jumped up 20psi when I replaced the gauge recently, but the hot pressure is about the same. The rockers are getting plenty of oil, so no blockages on that route. Also had the engine apart recently; no spun big-end bearings. Oil filter is new too so unlikely to be blocked. Something called a "Relief Valve" in the oil diagram in the manual (not sure if it's part of the oil filter or the tractor), but if that were blocked I would think the oil filter safety valve would open and drop the pressure. Would you happen to know, Lance, what pressures the safety and relief valves are set for?
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 4 жыл бұрын
Relief would be 60 I would think Bypass I have never looked into but perhaps we will.

Howdy Lance, I have an aftermarket full scale 0-80PSI oil pressure gauge I would like to install. I am wondering if the plug in the oil gallery about 100mm forward of the oil gauge banjo bolt just behind the oil filter housing was just a plug or something else. It’s a bigger bolt head so if it is just a plug I could make another and tap a female 1/8” NPT thread into the head section to suit the gauge then make a plug to replace the banjo bolt fitting. I have found no mention of that bolt’s purpose and figure you probably know. Also interest in the thread if you happen to know that. Great videos mate, thanks for sharing.
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 2 жыл бұрын
That is along the oil gallery for sure, the purpose was to allow the center main bearing oil gallery to be drilled in manufacture then they just plugged it up. So no problem jumping in there.

Interesting as usual! So they didn’t use BSF and BSW on the gauges? UNC and UNF? Or are they compatible? Only reason I’m asking is I’m doing a CAT up in the UK and a lot of the bolts have been replaced in the UK previously with BSF and BSW. Changing them all back to UNC and UNF, it’s taking a while..
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 4 жыл бұрын
No the British use UNF here for some reason unless it is an SAE or something similar but the 3/8 Unf fits nicely/

How about fitting a modern electric sender and then having just an input wire to the guage. With this the issue of metal pipes breaking and leaking oil and damaging the enge will be avoided.
