great job. I'm in the middle of doing the same. our work unit is at least 10 years old, if not older. the scaling was horrible!!!! so glad the lid on my model was removeable. it was caked on so thick. it would have easily filled a 20 oz cup of just that. hard and glued to the walls. A co worker started to clean it, and the scaleing freaked him out and he just wanted to toss it out right then. It just needed a little love.. waiting on some new gaskets right now. can't wait to get it going again! I'm definitely descaling it more often. thanks for a great video!

Thank you! I just took one home from work that has a leak. I think it is the .70 cent seal between heating tank and holding tank

Nice video. Would have liked to see you remove the tank. Looks too complicated for me.

Thanks for the videos, very helpful. I have the CW15-TC PF, it is pour over only, but I wondered if you can add a hot water faucet to it as a hack?

How did you get the build up off the tank walls ?
@onemansgarage6203
@onemansgarage6203 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. There wasn't much build up, just a film. I used soap and hot water, no chemicals. It's a stainless tank so it was easy to clean, getting to the inside of the tank is the difficult part. Thanks for watching!

It wasn't hard to get mine off. Maybe missed a screw somewhere? You might try filling it with a mixture of white vinegar and water and let it set awhile. It may be glued on with hard water deposits.

Nice work! You don't indicate if there were any gaskets to replace (to seal the heating tank for instance), nor cleaning materials used. I assume it was just vinegar to remove lime scale? Watched a video by an Indian fellow (country of India) and he applied "form-a-gasket" out of a tube around nuts and screws when he reassembled. Was wondering if it was necessary, and also was concerned about chemicals in form-a-gasket coming in contact with dispensed water. Were there gaskets to replace upon reassembly? I was thinking of doing the same task on a BUNN Model VP17-2, SST which is nearly the same as your model.

Hi, Thanks for the comment. There was a gasket on top of the boiler. It was clear silicone and I just cleaned and used the original as it was still pliable and not torn. Form-a-gasket is a terrible idea! I used Hot water, a steel wool pad and elbow grease to clean it. No chemicals of any kind. I was worried it would leach into the water eventually. There are food-grade de-scalers available, and white vinegar, lemon juice etc., but a little scrubbing and scalding hot water was sufficient in this case. I would re-use the gasket if it is in good shape. If not I would purchase the proper replacement parts. Your coffee maker may look the same but you have to be careful. I watched another repair video on a coffee maker similar to mine but the tank was not serviceable. It was a sealed tank, no boiler lid to remove. It cost me $18 to repair mine with the purchase of the switch and the water lid, but replacing the boiler tank would have cost quite a bit more I think. One thing I did learn with these coffee makers is that if it is plugged in, it is heating water. There is no on-off switch for the boiler heating element. After your cleaning/repair, I would suggest unplugging it or connecting it to a wall switch so the boiler elements can be turned off when not in use. Longer life and less scale build-up over time. Good luck with your project! Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching! Cheers.

Is there no way to properly clean this without fully dismantling it? That is an odd (and unsanitary) design choice.

Filter the water. Run de-scaler through it once a month or more. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

What does VPR stand for?
@onemansgarage6203
@onemansgarage6203 2 жыл бұрын
VPR (voltage protection rating). It's a safety thing whenever you combine a publicly used electrical device with water (coffee maker). It ensures that if there is a short, the unit will cut the electricity so the user won't get electrocuted. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!
