I remember when Paper Mario Color Splash had a boss fight that literally told you to go to the manual and find out how to beat it, that was really funny to me back then

I once ate half a box of cereal in one sitting because there was a toy in it, only for my parents to stop me and find the toy separately packaged outside the cereal after realizing what I was doing.

I still use this for 3DS games. Reading through manuals is always interesting and sometimes you actually discover a feature you had no clue about because it might not have been explained well in-game.

Yep, and if I recall correctly, the Wii U user manual itself was also built-in, but I think that was accessed through the settings. Edit: no, it's accessed from the home menu while on the Wii U menu

I loved how in the super mario maker digital manual you could enter codes to get videos.

There’s a bunch of stuff I wish the switch had, but honestly I just wish it had the little stuff like street pass, themes, and built in games like face raiders

Without manuals no one would ever know that in Super Mario 64 DS you can pick up players as Wario and swing them around like Bowser (only in multiplayer)

While I love my Switch OLED, it has many issues. It has profiles, friend requests, friend codes, miis, basic Nintendo and hardware stuff. But with only 2 themes, no shop music, no movers, and an extremely convoluted way to even access the browser, they very much downgraded from the Wii U. But another big problem is no security. The only security option you have is the screen lock in handheld mode where you have to press the same button fast 3 times to enter the console. It doesn’t bother me, but there’s many obvious issues with the switch.

I miss the virtual manual

They went very minimalistic on the switch so I’m hoping they bring back some of that wonder to the switch’s successor. I would love it if they brought back the screen that showed up asking to close game, see game manual, etc. As well as bring back a social platform for people to share on. A few more are themes, folders, game selection layout options, etc.

The whole concept of manuals has been abandoned by the introduction of in-game tutorials and handholding.

The built in manual was on the 3DS and DSi too

man honestly that manual was useful to me as a kid. (all 3ds and wii u games had it [I THINK])

Im not gonna lie they missed a lot things with switch it’s why I’ve went back to old consoles like dsi xl gameboy.

I have never used the manual feature on the Wii U because I didn’t own one but but I have used a few times the manual feature on the 3ds and surprisingly it’s has just enough information for it to be quick, easy and useful!

the japanese physical copies sometimes put additional artwork inside the boxes to new super mario bros 2 has golden enemys in the little squares to.

If Nintendo made NS2 for their year released. Hopefully they will come back sometimes…

Ikr why didn't they put digital manuals? They basically removed something nefessary! I mean at least the Sonic games have it and one isn't even built in game, but it's a QR. Inconvenient, but at least it's something. The removal doesn't make sense

I mean, some games like captain toad treasure tracker for the switch already has controls in the game cover (inside of box) and even if it doesn't, its either easy to learn or it tells you wt the start. I don't believe a manual is necessary.

I missed the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS despite never owning either. Although I'm happy with my Nintendo Switch. It seems that Nintendo Switch is a bit soulless and lackluster

The Wii U was actually a good system. In may ways it feels like a downgrade. Bluetooth, faster loads, game screen resolution is the strong points but other than that the Wii U had more in its ui and overall more detailed system.

The 3DS did the same thing too.

Wii U has stuff that the Switch didn't have & it is weaker, but at least they put more third parties to the switch

Wii U, 3DS and Vita do it to my knowledge but they all do it well (not all tutorials are great and Dev websites isn't fun on PS4/Switch. So I do use these digital manuals on these 3 consoles that have them, sure their PDFs and less animation and some are basic but others are packed with info, but I actually use these for some games on Wii U especially, sometimes Vita, not needed to on 3DS that much) have them and I love them being a feature even if I enjoy physical manuals or fold outs why companies think their tutorials are the only way (I don't always find them effective) or Dev websites like for PS4/Switch games or NSO (very few PS4 games link to them out of the many games I have installed that have a manual then advertising or no video/advertising and other stuff below, and I only have Shining Resonance Refrain on Switch do this of the 5 games I have there for website manuals. I was looking for something specific of potions/ingredients or magic or menus or something and did find it so) it isn't the same. Otherwise control pamphlets are cool physical but very few games do either mostly registration papers and advertising I keep them but never use them the control papers I do like but still they aren't always there but digital manuals were for every game on Wii U, 3DS and Vita. Mario Odyssey has it's manual/animations and that's pretty cool (no idea what others do it though only know about it because of Scott the Woz as I don't have Odyssey myself I just know it's a thing) and Ratchet games had move lists and descriptions for every weapon and item and gadget in the past games not so much anymore, more so the PS2 era also monsterpedia in Ratchet 2 is great which not ma y games had all enemy or item descriptions some do but others don't. Scaler had a good physical manual with colour and those details but I don't have it sigh. Still I like these 3 systems console and handhelds that have digital manuals not all are great manuals for some games but many get the job done and it's cool to see the art, the words no animation but oh well and even many languages if European/Oceania versions printed.

I despise the switch ui, it looks and feels like something you would get in an Android box made for mobile games 😢

Eu penso que a Nintendo não investiu muito no software do Switch por medo de um novo fracasso, então pode ter sido uma economia. Talvez o próximo aparelho da Nintendo terá um software sólido e divertido, afinal o Switch deu certo e continuar com o que deu certo, melhorando seus pontos fracos, é o caminho lógico.

I wish they just iterated on Wii U's UI on the Switch. The interface feels so basic and bland in design, completely lacking personality and features. Wii U's menus are the complete opposite, though the console itself was a flop
