M6 Grandfather fought with the 14th Army here,and survived. He wouldn't talk about it though, all he said was to quote him:"You wouldn't believe some of the things I saw." Rest in Peace, Grandad. I love you XX

Dad was exactly the same . Dreadful bloody warfare , Mum said Dad was a different man when he returned. He didn't get back till early 1946 because of the political turmoil India was going through pre independence. He never left the UK again after he got back apart from a brief holiday visit abroad in 45 years.

In my youth, I was lucky enough to have known men who fought in this campaign.

Can anyone help me my grandfather fought in burma a brutal campaign he got caught tortured then escaped and took Americans with him hes scottish Gordon Highlanders. He said Americans soldiers just could keep quite and that was there downfall they weren't trained to slither about a jungle for months on a 17 mile hill .. absolute heros whatever happened in Europe Dunkirk Normandy etc is owed to the men who fought in burma to create a opening on the European side... shocking that no one gets taught about burma it was hell ...if anyone knows how i go about finding about my papas history id be grateful he didn't talk but had the highest medals in history vc for bravery and ive no idea what he did .he also survived a plane crash on arrival so fought injured before he got caught tongue ripped out then he escaped absolutely so proud of the burma boys it says it all when no one talks about it 1000000 times worse than in europe
