LOVE, DAMINI follows the African Giant’s Grammy Award Winning album, Twice As Tall and was written as Burna Boy’s personal letter to his fans. Each track was inspired by significant life events that have impacted Burna. The record marks a coming of age into his and captures Burna Boy's new sound as he turns the page on a new musical era. For those struggling to grasp what he’s saying, I will attempt an explanation because the lyrics are fire as well. As you can tell, it brilliantly samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 hit - wasn’t man enough. Intro Chant: ‘’E don cast, Last last Na everybody go chop breakfast Shayo o Aye! Shayo o Igbo o (Aye!)’’ Translation: Tragedy has happened, and we all are bound to experience some heartbreak Verse 1 ‘’You go bow for the result o Nothing to discuss o Cos I dey win by default And without any doubt o Omo me I be adult o I no go fit take your I no go fit take your insult o Omo mind as you dey talk o I put my life into my job and I know I'm in trouble She manipulate my love o, hmm’’ Translation: Here, he begins with a brag. Telling his competitors that they will be astonished by his results, and that the conversation about his status is over flogged - nothing to discuss. He declares himself a winner by default and won’t take any insult from anyone. However, despite his dedication to his craft, his heart is troubled because "she manipulated his love." (The subject of this manipulation, we assume, is Stefflon Don - his now ex British girlfriend) ‘’I no holy and I no denge pose Like Baba Fryo My eye o, don cry o I need igbo and shayo (shayo)’’ Translation: Here, he states that he is not holy or sanctimonious, and won’t front like his feelings were not hurt, given how much he has cried. And because of this, he cannot stay sober, so he "needs Igbo and Shayo" (weed and alcohol) to get over the pain. Verse 2 ‘’I dey Port Harcourt when dem kill Soboma I dey try to buy motor, one Toyota Corolla My feelings been dey swing like jangolova Feelings been dey swing like jangolova Now you crash your Ferarri for Lekki, Burna Na small thing remain, could have been all over My feelings still dey swing like jangolova Feelings still dey swing like’’ Translation: Burna recalls another heartbreak from 2010 when a freedom fighter and militant - Soboma George - from his troubled but oil rich hometown was killed. He also tries to reference how poor he was at the time, given that he was only dreaming of buying a sedan Toyota Corrolla, but a couple of years on, he got himself a Ferrari 458, which he crashed in Lagos in February 2022, as if to say, no matter your achievement or lack of, your feelings are always going to be swinging like a rollercoaster (jangolova). ‘’Ti ti, tim ba ni ke juru, e juru Omo why to ki n fe ni suru?
