OK, so it is not impossible but you can plug in all of the data that you have right here...www.shooterscalculator.com/ballistic-trajectory-chart.php and you can calculate your trajectory. That will give you the drop number you need to program this scope.
@Genjinai
@Genjinai 4 жыл бұрын
Or you can just tune it yourself if you lack sufficient information about the bullet to use a ballistic calculator. For 6.5 CM for example they only had the data for 120 gr and 140 gr on their site. If you have, let's say, a 130 gr bullet, you look at the number for the 120 gr and the 140 gr on the website. Then you set the scope somewhere in the middle of those two numbers. You then shoot at 300 yards and see where the bullet hits. You can then adjust that number up or down to get in the middle of the target. It's the exact thing as zeroing a rifle, it's not really rocket science, just a value that can only move on one axis, up or down, the same thing as a simple turret...

Hey Travis, good videos. However, you picked the most complicated way to program the scope. All you need is 1.Muzzle Velocity which you get with a chrono 2. Your round, we have them all even hand loads (all you need is the bullet and BC), 3. sight height above bore, and 4. environment info (elevation, and temp). There is no need for drop info, formulas or anything like that. Once you have your Muzzle Velocity this whole process will take you about 5 minutes and will be as accurate as you are! One the riser topic you will only run into issues with ARs for those we make shorter risers so you don't have the scope so high.

Those Burris scopes work great... I have one on a 308 AR10 and a Weatherby 257.. Look up on the sheet they supply the closest ammo BC wise... Or reload your own with the BC of the projectile and the average velocity using a chronograph... Then do the formula for your bullet info. I live at 310' elev in CA but usually hunt in Nebraska.. I use 4000' for a close enough elevation. Sight in at 100 yards just like directions say. Then take a shot at something near 750 yards.. Can be more or less and there is a correction for both. Then shoot. Take the distance in inches above or below your target and add it to your drop number or subtract it from the drop number... Sounds complicated but it is relatively easy. I have lasered deer out to 788 yards and have shot dead on at 520 yards.. Remember the gold dot in the scope is about a 2" dot at 100 yards so it is fine for hunting but for "F" class shooting it is too large. Push the button and 1 second later you have the distance and ballistic drop calculations with the impact point adjusted in the scope....

Years ago I became interested in long range shooting. I was already involved in competition Skeet shooting. I haven’t shot in a while. I went to the pistol range and afterwards stopped by the sales counter and looked at the Ruger Precision Rifle. I’ll probably pick one up soon. After watching your first video, I began looking at ammo. I have always liked Hornady and was surprise that the ammo in this video is what I plan on using. Will keep you updated.

You’re right in pointing out that it’s not quite as simple as it’s being marketed. A good many distance shooters are reloaders so they are usually pretty good at calculations trying to formulate that perfect projectile and powder combination. I’m sure the quality is good. @Chriskelly19067
@Chriskelly19067 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of load data is available online, but for hand loads you need your velocity, bullet weight, and your dope at 100 yards zero. You can extrapolate with some math but as you mentioned it does get a little complicated... best bet is using factory ammo with known ballistic figures... usually they're based on a certain length barrel though so you may need to tweak a little.... getting that 100 percent precision isn't easy and i think at a certain point there is no short cut.

Ok this is what I did. I used handload on Burris website and plugged in BC an MV0 for 750 yrd drop. Shooting a 30-06 180gr bullet at 2602 fps and BC of 0.369. Gave me a drop no of 213. Plugged that into scope, went to range and shot 4" gong at 400 yrds. Its was a bit low, (on bigger gong) first) so using Strelok (which by the way gave exactly same drop no at 750 as Burris did) I trued drop down to 210" drop for 400 yrds. Started getting g hits. So the trueing adjusted the MVO does little. Then took it out to 600 yrds and got HITS. So basically you reverse engineer the drop using a Ball App in the field. Not too complicated.

Your eval made this sound complicated but it is super easy... add subtract the given change for altitude( altitude is findable with a phone app. ) The basic charges are factory listings and if you handload it is easy to modify the calculations. You only need the BC of your bullet for the caliber and the fps of the round. YOU STILL NEED TO VERIFY BY SHOOTING and then fine tune. ONCE DONE you need not change anything except if you travel to a different altitude(or shoot in a mountainous area) but you still have your dope card.. No biggie.

Interesting info. Try to mount your scope lower for a better cheek weld W/O having a high cheek rest in relation to the butt pad. BURRIS needs: 1.A completely programmable ballistic engine 2. Bluetooth compatibility with a Kestrel 5700 weather meter/ballistic engine IN LIEU of an internal ballistic engine. 3. At least Bluetooth compatibility for wind info and display. These improvements are mostly a Bluetooth sensor and more programming.

I really like the concept behind this scope but one of the things that has kept me from bitting the bullet and buying one is that (correct me if I'm wrong please) the scope can only be programed for one load at a time. In my 6.5 caliber rifles I like to work up accurate loads for mid-weight and heavy weight bullets and charge weights. This means that the scope will work really well but only for one specific load. You'd think that by now Burris would have added sufficient upgrades to their onboard computer processor to allow for the storage of more than one load; whether hand loads or store bought cartridges. This would make such a scope even more attractive. Think about it; you go on a hunt and forget to pack your programmed cartridges but your lucky enough to pass a sporting good store on the way that sells one of the other load recipes the scope might have been programed for. I know this is just offbeat example. Most hunter have never forgotten to bring along their bullet when they go hunting but, I only mention it as an example. It would be a whole lot more convenient to simply punch in or change the load preference with a simple press of a button.

Your guess is as good as mine but it gives you a 10mph estimate on the holdover. You have your holdover dot and then a wind correction number that you use (kinda like an x, y axis on graph paper) and you use the number to adjust for windage. If you look at the reticle there are dots in the lower right and left quadrants.
@JOSHFOLLETT
@JOSHFOLLETT 5 жыл бұрын
It uses the programming info you have entered and shows you the wind drift for your specific cartridge based on a 10mph wind. You will still have to use the windage dots to compensate for wind. Example: windage number 1.5 at 100 yards. Your target is 200 yards, so 1.5x2=3. So 3 mills of wind.
